Default BIY Build Party & DIY gunsmithing - Houston, Texas - Updated APR 2014 w/new options

Howdy all

I've been offering folks an open shop for years for the purpose of building AKs from kits and converting Saigas.

I have all the tools & jigs necessary to build an AK from a kit with a 100% receiver. I do not have the ability to make a receiver.

I have all the tools & jigs necessary to do a basic Saiga conversion (I am not able to mill or cut holes for Russian/Bulgarian/AMD-65 type folders).

I do not have any welding or finishing (park/paint/etc) equipment, but can offer you suggestions on getting those parts of your project completed.

Recently received your tax stamp? I can help you install a fixed tang on your Draco/Champion/M92/M85 (you'll need to bring your tax stamp and engraved firearm)

I will not do any work on your projects. I will be on hand throughout your stay to advise you on how to complete your project.

Interested parties will need to bring their own 5/32 drill bits or any other sizes that may be required. There is a Walmart, Home Depot and Lowes within 5 minutes of my shop if you don't have any bits.

I do not charge anything for this service.

I've been doing this since 2007, and in that time I've had folks come from Dallas, Austin, San Antonio, other distant areas of Texas and parts of Louisiana to work on their guns. The vast majority seem appreciative (thanks, guys!)

To set up your build day, either PM me or click on the phone icon in my signature to call me.

Do you have a box full of these strange-looking parts?

I now have all the tools necessary to assemble them into a functional rifle.

As above, you will be doing all the work. PM me to set up an assembly day.

Also, If you're having trouble with another weapon, or need help doing something with your AR, 1911, BHP, shotgun or whatever, I can probably help you "get'er done" ( I'm not doing any of the work - just providing guidance & possibly the tools )

I have grip tape, and can assist you in setting up your pistol (or whatever) to be "extra grippy" (grip tape is 1" wide and will cost 15¢ per inch)

I am available 24/7 by PM, email or phone (I keep weird hours)

If I'm not able to respond, well, I'm probably not available right then and will get back to you

Yeah, I've been doing this since 2007, and had this offer listed at another forum that was popular with the DIY Saiga crowd. That is, until this guy took over that forum . .

Can you zero the weapon?

The rear sight block is closely aligned with the barrel trunnion, which is the reason I ask.

I wish I could find someone like this near Phoenix! I've even offered to pay people and still get nowhere.

Nalioth, as others have said, that is really nice of you to offer your tools and time at no cost--kudos to you. Build parties in the San Diego area that are organized on calguns charge $100 and they allow flats and all the riff raff (who knows if they're allowed to own guns?). If I am ever in the Houston area, I will message you.

i want to build one very soon. I'd be starting from scratch tool and kit wise. How much does the first build usually cost.?? hopefully cheaper than my wasr lol. Im down in corpus so maybe i could meet up with you one day in the future for some advice? Really starting to dislike all these new ak prices recently.

These days, building may not be cheaper than buying ready-made.

The difference is that when you build your own, you'll know a helluva lot more about it than the guy that buys the Fancy-Name rifle off the rack and sticks it in the safe . . .

I'm available through several methods found in my signature and via PM.

I may need to swing by and press out a couple barrel pins to finish a de-mill. Then the wait is on for barrel/receiver. Oh, and maybe fix that safety stop too.

And yeah, Nalioth will watch and stop you before you do something stoopid (as I'm prone to do from time to time).

You far from Houston? If not, I may need to get some flats and pay a visit.

I did a build party through another forum about four or five years ago, it was a lot more work than I expected. I did pretty much the same thing you are doing, built off 100% receivers and had people provide their own drill bits. All and all it was a fun time and pretty productive, 6 guys and about a dozen AKs built and parked.

I was just pointed to your thread nalioth. This is an awesome offer. I am waiting on some parts for my first build. I would very much like to come to your shop and try my hand at getting my "Humpty Dumptys" together. Do you have the tools to build a milled Ak?

If the barrel presses in, I believe I do.

If it threads in, I have no clue (never seen one with a threaded barrel).

FYI folks, the "☎ Nalioth" link in my signature goes right to my phone (no charge to landlines).
