Default mags don't fit in my AK

Just got a new rifle from atlantic firearms, the ssr 85 c2. Rifle looks fine but won't take any mags. What happens is the front lip hooks in and when I rock the mag back and up, it does not lock into the reciever. It's as if the rear lip doesn't fit right. Is there something simple I can do to fix this problem or should I try and return the rifle. Thanks

I'd send it directly back to Global Trades in Texas. They manufactured your rifle.

Before you do try a different mag, maybe borrow one from a freind. Sometimes the poly/bakelite mags need some tweaking to work.

After many attempts, still no luck. It appears the problem is that the rear lip of the mag is unable to fit into the space under the magazine release. When the mag is inserted, the magazine release moves forward until the point where the mag should pass over the release and lock in. at which point, it goes no farther and does not lock in place. In this case, should I try and file the mags, or actually work on the AK itself, or would you just return an otherwise nice rifle?

If you are having a problem with the synthetic waffle mags the problem is the mags.

Bunches of them don't fit many AKs. A few strokes to the mags with a file fixes them. Take just a little off the REAR pad on the mag.

If steel mags don't fit it is the weapon that is at fault.

Global Trades was kind of spotty quality wise on their built rifles.

My WASR had the same problem. As the other poster mentioned file off some material off the bottom of the mag catch (on the mag). After I did a little filing on mine they fit perfect. Just go slow and test fit often. Another solution is to file the top of the mag catch itself but a mistake here is harder to fix. As a wise man once told me, file on the cheapest part first.

SEND THE WEAPON BACK TO THE MANUFACTURER. You should not have these types of problems.

I now rememver I think it is the Global Trades receivers that have a flat on the center support sleeve. On factory AK's this flat faces forward for magazine clearance but GT turns the flat facing upwards to give more clearance to the bolt.Depending on how closely the sleeve fits the cross rivet it can move a bit up and fown and forwards and back.On some American AK's the center asupport is close to the bolt so they might want the flat facing upwards. It the sleeve rides forward a bit too much this may cause interference with the magazine.Romove the top cover and bolt carrier and see if you can see if the back of the magazine is hitting the center support.

I appreciate the feedback folks. But being my first rifle, I didn't feel comfortable filing anything. Also, since this is the second ssr 85 I had problems with, I decided to contact Global Trades. They were extremely apologetic and arranged to have the rifle picked up and sent back, also, they are going to throw in a few mags for the trouble. The fella I talked to, Mr. Grahm, was extremely professional and classy. I just hope the new rifle is A-OK.

Kbatty,

Is this the same ssr that you posted about the rust and roughed up finish in the other topic room?

I only ask because I have found the Armory USA/GT rifles to be of high quality, I own 1 and have sold 3 others at the gun store I work at parttime. My range report was very favorable, no jams, FTF or miss fires. the point of aim and point of impact was spot on. I did find that it saw a little picky about the mags due to the heavier 1.6 mm receiver but all 11 of my Bulg, chicom and hungarian mags fit great. We have not had any of the others returned. I due understand that every once in a while one gets though that has some problems, so I hope you can get this resolved quickly and get back out shooting.
