To remove handguard wood you must twist it off the gas tube. This can be easy or hard. On my WASR it just twisted right off, but on my Krink I had to use a different method. I found the easiest way to remove a stubborn hand guard is to get a set of strap wrenches.
Link Place strap around wood, and with the shaft of a screw driver placed in the notch on the gas tube end simply turn wrench. Since the strap is rubber it wont mar the wood of the guard and gives alot more leverage. Also be sure to use some WD-40 under the lip of the gas tube that is holding the wood on. Hope that helps.
