Default Romanian RPK-74

Hey y'all, wanting to know if there has ever been an attempt to clone a Romanian RPK-74. From what I gather, parts availablility would be the main reason for not building an exact clone. Anybody come close?

I believe there were a few kits a few years back. A few were built, but not many.

This article was written based on a review of a Romanian RPK-74 build. The furniture and sling are typical Romanian, in case there is any doubt of the kit origin: http://www.tactical-life.com/online/...k-74-545x39mm/

Most RPK-74 kits in the US are new manufacture Bulgarian Arsenal, demilled Russian or Bulgarian parts kits. Many of the Bulgarian kits were actually scrubbed and reserialed Russian.

Following the link and I vaguely remember reading that story some time ago. Who was the importer of those few Romanian RPK-74 kits? Was there any features that distinguished them apart from the Bulgarian/Russian RPK-74's? Were the Romanian RPK-74's ever exported like their AKM's?

ORF - Ohio Rapid Fire sold the Bulgy RPK-74 kits. The used ones sold for $650, the new ones sold for $950-$1000. They were really nice, especially the Plum stcok version. I never saw a Romy RPK-74. Quite a few Romy RPK kits made it in, in the 7.62x39 caliber.

Ordered a 20" vepr in 5.45x39 that should be here at the end of the week.

I wanted to snag a 23" version but RRC sold out the day before I was going to order one.

It is not going to be a "proper" rpk-74 clone ... but once it is converted it will be close enough for my liking and not $1500+ to boot.
