Default What optics are best for forend quad rail

I recently picked up one of those M+M M-10 AKM's with a quad rail system up front. So I want to mount a scope on the top of the front rail but I can't decide on what to use. Clearly it will be mounted too far forward for many scopes. The guys at my local gun shop tried to sell me on an open window type red dot sight. I would prefer something with a little zoom but since it will be mounted around 18 inches in front of my eye. I don't know of a good scope for that. I don't really care if it has a red dot. I am not concerned about parallax but it can't hurt really. I just don't need one of those if that is a factor. Anyway thanks for any advice.

Eye relief would clearly be a large issue when trying to mount a scope so far forward. So you would need to get an approximate measurement of the eye relief your set up would allow and then look for scopes than can accommodate that.

Personally, I think you would be much better off with a micro red dot on the handguard and if you want to use a scope then you should look into using the side rail.

So I put the approximate length I would need for the eye relief in my post as I knew that was the main factor.

I was simply asking if anyone had any experience with scopes that had eye relief in that range as I can not find any decent ones.

When I originally measured and it seems that I may get somewhere between 13-20 inches depending on a number of factors that is why I posted 18 inches of eye relief.

Since the original post I have started looking into hand gun scopes because those seem to be designed more for this range of eye relief. So does anyone out there have a larger caliber pistol with a scope that is happy with it and arms length?

I believe Hi/lux leatherwood 2x7 ler scope as a 13" relief. It is a good scope for the money, about $150.00. Look up the review on Midway USA.

I have one on a 30-30 and i'm very happy with it and plan on getting a second for one of my Mosins.

Get a pistol or scout scope. @ 2x power you could still go both eyes open which is very desireable since FOV sucks on pistol scopes. It's the cost of the long eye relief.
