Default Question About Maadi Barrel Threading...

I have been wondering about my Maadi misr the threads on the end of the barrel are ground down. I was wondering if it would be possible to take this to a gunsmith and get them to re-thread…is there was enough left on it? Having examined the pictures below is it possible to have this done? Would it even be worth the time and money? Any information would be helpful. Thanks in advance,
Mike

Looks pretty tough. May be easier to sleeve it to 24mm via thread adapter(silver soldered on) and use appropriate brake.

The barrel should be .551" roughly in daim., IIRC, for the 14mm die. Also it would help to take the pins out of the front sight and move the base back a bit when threading the barrel.

Looks very poorly turned down. If .550" +/- OK for 14mm x1 LH. If .500" +/- then 1/2 x 28.
Yours looks very inconsistent in diameter however.

Does not look good., you are at the high spot on the old threads at .048". Probably best left alone IMHO.

I had a similar issue with one of my AKs. My barrel was right at .500.

I bought one of the thread adaptors that was male 14x1LH by female with 4 set screws. I had a guy locally ream out the center hole to 15/32". I then cut off the female side and silver soldiered the threaded section on.

I chased the threads with a 14x1LH die and put on my FH.

Can you explain that? 15/32 = .469"., You turned down the barrel first from the .500" then slipped on the .469 ID with 14/1 OD threads??? I can't follow the sequence., sorry.

It had the 'remains' of some threads on it. The top of the threads were right at .500". I used a fine file to smooth them out. That dropped the barrel down to .480" to .470". It was difficult to get an accurate measurement.

A local shop teacher used a lathe and a drill bit to ream out the hole. He told me it was a 15/16" bit. According to my micrometer, it was right at .473-4" when I got it back.

I had a friend use high temperature silver soldier to attach it. I watched as he did it. He used fine emery cloth on the barrel first. Then he degreased both pieces. He put flux on the barrel, slid the threads on and then proceeded to heat the muzzle. Then he added the soldier to the barrel and threaded piece.

After it had cooled, I chased the threads with a Die.
