"And this nut from across the street - who had been outside shooting his gun - the gentleman asked him if he would quit because of all the kids outside playing. And so he took it upon his self to come over here and he just shot the man. Shot him in the head," said neighbor Lois Clairmont.

Deputies said the weapon was a .30-30 hunting rifle. The three boys who witnessed the shooting ran inside to get their mother and when she came out, Hill allegedly shot her twice.

Thalia Rebecca Mook, 35, was taken to Cape Fear Valley Medical Center where she died Sunday.

Peterkin said when his officers arrived, Hill had returned to his home on Philippi Church Road - around the corner from the Brown's house. A short standoff ensued, and Hill surrendered after about 30 minutes.

Ten weapons were seized at Hill's home.

Hill was charged with two counts of first-degree murder. He was being held without bond in the Hoke County Jail.

I've got a feeling there is a whole lot missing from this story. It's likely there has been a lot more going on between these people. It wouldn't surprise me if guy lives in rural area, others moved in and started telling him how to live.

Just a hunch. I might be way wrong. Hard to imagine the guy started shooting a 30.06 in a suburb. They'd have just called the police. As long as the guy wasn't shooting in the direction of anyone else, or their homes, it really wasn't any of their f'ing business.

Will be interesting to see how this turns out.

I know Hoke County very well. There is only 1 "town" called Raeford and the rest is rural. There are some real prize winners there. Sheriff Peterkin is a "Roscoe P. Coltrain/ Boss Hogg" type, and crooked as they come.

From what is posted of the article it doesn't mention race. The accused is charged with two counts of murder. Seems right.

Could it turn into something like the post title? Absolutely. Hype and racial tension? Jackson and Sharpton can not only smell it like a shark smells blood in the water they can pull it out of an empty hat.

Is it strange that he was confronted by both parents seperately? Yes. Doesn't seem smart to me but hindsight is 20/20. I wouldn't have asked him to stop.

Someone said poor kids and I agree.

There could be more to it as others have stated. Is it an area where shooting is allowed? You still don't shoot those asking you to stop.

The chance of all his weapons being labled Glocks/AKs? Pretty good. What is the model number of that new Glock in 30-30 anyway?

Is it a "hate crime"? The entire hate crime thing is politically correct racially divisive double speak. If someone murders they are/should be eligible for the full penalty. Most states in the south that means death. What are they gonna do different with a "hate crime"? Hangin's too good for him. Burnin's too good for him. He should be chopped up in itsy bitsy pieces and buried alive.
