Hello all!!! I am the proud new owner of a Zastava PAP. I am planning on keeping it a single stack (switching mags doesnt bother me that much). Since this is my first rifle ever I decided to go with something that was cheap, got good reviews, and IMO looks pretty good. My plans right now is to add a quad rail (any brand suggestions?) to the front and attach a foregrip. Maybe run a red dot scope on it but heard about it having trouble maintaining zero with mounted scopes. IDK if anyone has tried to add an aftermarket rail on it but if someone has please let me know which brand works best. My primary purpose for this gun is to strictly learn AK's before I step up and buy an expensive model. The way I see it 380 bucks isn't that bad for a gun that will remain mostly stock.

galleryofguns.com. They update stock every so often and when I purchased it there were 20 left in stock.
Thanks Wess...I already have about 200 rounds of ammo for it and plan on buying a few more boxes before I hit the range on Saturday. |

You'll find it surprisingly accurate for an AK. Most don't like the ten round mag and thumbhole stock. I for one think the stock makes it a very comfortable shooter and have no problems with ten rounds. Enjoy!

Congrats on the Zastava. I have one but mine is far from stock anymore.
Just a bit of advice on the quad rail. Make sure you get one that states its for a Yugo or M70. The Zastava hand guard and gas tube are slightly different in length then the standard AK's. UTG makes one that is lower cost unit. Midwest Industries makes one that will also allow you to 1/3 lower co-witness your iron sites, and there is also the Ultimak Rail that will do the same. The UTG rail will not allow the co-witness with the iron sites. |

Let me add my congratulations also. They are very well made and are indeed surprisingly accurate. Like maxxram, mine is far from stock.

UTG makes a quad rail for the Yugoslavian AK. That might be one of the few that will fit the PAP properly. Make it is the the model for the Yugoslavian AK if you buy one. Try buying some single stack steel magazines. I forget which one may fit the PAP. Some fit it and some require a bit of fitting done to the magazines. Some won't work at all but they re cheap enough to find out. The steel magazines should hold up better than the factory plastic ones.

Great gun just got mine back from double stack conversion fed like a sewing machine. waiting on m70 stock from ironwood still. If you need a couple more mags pm me i'd go $20 for two shipped just to get rid of them and save you a few bucks seems like the factory ones were 35-40 each.

I found a few scope mounts but dont know which I should buy. I found this....http://www.cheaperthandirt.com/AKS006-6.html and there are two others on CTD but they're out of stock. Im ready to start doing upgrades and dont know when they'll be available. If anyone knows of any other mounts with side rails please chime in. |

This is the side mount that i am using.
http://www.leapers.com/prod_detail.p...us=&mtrack=2m2 You will also need to purchase an install one of the mounting brackets to be able to use any of the side mount. http://www.leapers.com/prod_detail.p...us=&mtrack=2m2 In order to mount the bracket you will have to drill three holes and bolt it into place. |

If you're gonna go with a cheap mount, this one actually gets good reviews.

I read that they aren't chrome lined.
I'm not trying to go cheap on this gun nor am I thinking on dumping a bunch of cash either . I've learned that there are certain things you don't go cheap with. This is one if those things. I do agree that I should learn the gun first before adding tons of things on. One thing that is certain about what I want is to be able to compare a before and after feeling. |

I've heard in several places that Zastava has started chrome-plating their barrels within the last 1-2 years. If yours is a new production model, I'd love to hear if they finally started doing it. I don't plan on buying one, but it's nice to know.

Does it have the heavy barrel like other Yugo. rifles and is it original or American made. If these have the original barrel and reciever, I would rather have something like this over some CAI "Polish Ak 47". It isn't exactly a Polish Ak when the two most important parts (barrel and receiver) are made in America. This is one reason why you can't go wrong with an SGL series or SAIGA conversion rifle. The SGL's are getting a little too high but you get what you pay for.
They should quit using this market ploy and call them "Polish style" or "Egyptian style" rifles. |

Once i had everything lined up i marked and drilled the front hole. The front bolt hole is the toughest because it is so close to where the old mag supports were. so you may run into an issues there, but nothing a dremel cant handle. Once I had the front bolt in i then remeasured a few times to make sure the mount was still square with the top of the receiver, and then drilled the back hole. Once that one was bolted in i drilled the middle one. The bolts that came with it were a little short (was only getting threads into the nut about 3/4 of the way), so I put in slightly longer screws. One other option I may still do is you can thread the rail itself for 10-32 threads and use cap screws and bolt it from the inside out. All in all i think it came out great. |
