That said, I'd go lighter on the weight and do more reps.
It's not ideal but it has it's strengths.
There's always body weight exercises.
There are enough things you can do that way to get by.

I'm 60 in a month and still doing it but I do get injuries. Never used to happen at all. That was a long time ago. lol
I do my best to stay strict and go slow. I fell several years ago and dislocated my right shoulder. Had trouble with it ever since. Really throws the screws to me benching any amount of heavy weight. Shoulder exercises are rough too. I am 180 and can get 190 or so up as a max, but cant seem to get the shoulder to where I can lift heavy enough to go beyond that. So I do lighter weight high rep like you mentioned. I also have what I think is the beginning stages of arthritis in my joints. My ankles knees and hips were giving me fits before I lost the weight. Now I can bike and even run, but started having trouble with my elbows now. Lots of pain doing hammer curls and biceps exercises. It's really disappointing putting in the work and not seeing gains. Been in a maintaining mode for the last few months.
