Mas 49/56 is very underrated, as is the fn49. Although i do not know if they are considered modern. I have both, 49/56 in 7.5 french obviously, and if the 308 conversions functioned, theyd probably be more popular. 7.5 french is expensive to shoot, and can be tough to find. I shoot mine occasionally, and it has never failed, and built like a tank.

I would agree for the money the Baretta ARX 100 is very underated out of the current day offerings. Considering all the features it comes with, there is no other offering that compares to it at 899.00.

Agreed. So many features for such a low price point. Totally ambi, detachable barrel, sweet adjustable gas system, nice soft case with embroidered beretta logo, acceptable sling, really nice, solid beretta mags, adjustable, foldable stock. And hopefully, if it ever happens, caliber conversions. The 7.62x39 takes ak mags. Omg, that will be the shit!!!

This rifle deserves more attention, and aftermarket support. Its also a steal for 800 to 900 bucks, for what it offers.

Choppa, I keep looking at this one too. But many of the reviews out there from actual owners are not so hot. Mainly it's the ergonomics I guess and that massively high height over bore issue.

But then a few months go by and I see one and I'm like what was wrong w that rifle again? And back to the reviews. I do think it's prob worth the price, but the issue really is the other options that are available, esp for the guy that already has say an SLR-106.

Not sure what else I would pick as underrated tho as fan boys are everywhere ...

Also don't really see a ton of them at all actually out in the wild or at the range.

You'll see a ton of Tavor/X-95 nuthuggers tho...

The rifle is one of those love it or hate it types IMO.

I've played with them a few times in stores, and I personally think the complaints with them are way overblown. It's lightweight, literally PACKED with actual useful features, and doesn't look nearly as ugly once you get it in hand. The sights are awkward and so is the stock handguard, but those are easily remedied. They're an absolute steal for $900, shame they haven't caught on really.

The bren 805 is a hell of a rifle. Beats the pants off the ARs and AKs. Honestly, just traded for one and fell in love instantly.

My pop wants the Fishstick. He likes the ambi and quick change barrels. Honestly the Italian Fishstick has a lot going for it, US Aftermarket would do well to support it. But really, the fishstick doesn't really "need" any accessorization. It already has all the rails, rail covers, ambi controls, ambi-eject, quick change barrel. Maybe if it also had a folding stock, that'd take the cake. But otherwise, it's a package.

P90/PS90. It's a niche gun...but hear me out on this.

I think it's go-fast and light appeal is down played, and cartridge misinformation has caused it to take a hit. As a get the hell out of Dodge gun, it's pretty hard to beat, and it's completely impossible to beat for a vehicle gun.

Weighed out, SS198 in a 2k round count weighs just shy of 20lbs. It's quite literally half the weight of 5.56, and the ss198 round is incredible. With 50 round mags, and a gun that weighs less than 4.2lbs, it's hard to beat. That's a ton of center-fire AP HP rounds to carry in a relatively lightweight package. Shtf consideration speaking.

I handled a Berretta ARX100 rifle in a pawn shop just last week . The whole thing was plastic , except the barrel , and had this cheap cheesy air-soft feel to it . No , it was not comparable to a SCAR in any meaningful way cause a SCAR feels more durable in the hands than the ARX ever felt to me .

An AK with a nice finish and nice wood is an absolutely beautiful rifle.

Well put, I agree. The handgun is underrated in my opinion too.

It took me many years to believe an AK=Beautiful rifle. To me it was just a POS Terrorist rifle. Since my mentality changed to more of a firearms enthusiast a few years ago my view has since changed.

100%. I can't think of a single other gun that a regular average shooter can lay down accurate fire close to 100m with boring regularity. Both of those platforms are like laser guns.

Personally between having friends with stupid deep pockets, and getting to play with Marines, I’ve handled quite a few firearms. The highlight of my life is still the SMAW rocket. But the most comfortable, balanced, absolute JOY of a rifle I’ve ever shot is the FS2000. I didn’t take it into a prolonged field course, and I didn’t do much research, but the 6 magazines I put down it have been unmatched in their comfort and joy. Somehow I’ve just never bought one of the damn things.

I'm gonna have to go with the VZ-58 also. Rugged, accurate, very well designed and light.
