Default Long time pet project finally coming to life. Mg42 in 7.62x39

This has been in and out of the vault for a couple of years now. It recently came back out of the vault and has made it from theory to reality.

The original idea was to make a drop in conversion that did not require modifications to the gun while also being quickly and easily donned onto the users gun. We have managed to do just that with this prototype conversion kit.

In the conversion of other guns to 7.62x39 there was a requirement to adjust or replace recoil springs in order to get consistent and reliable cycling of the action. With this conversion there is 0 modification to the springs of the gun making it both quicker and easier to do the caliber change.

Enjoy a little teaser video of the conversion.

Well. Fully erect now. Thanks lol

Would any of the new conversion parts be usable on a semi M53 build?

In theory, the conversion is drop in and will work in either full or semi. With that said, the changes in operation from full to semi may or may not add extra drag and not cycle reliably. I do not have a semi gun to test with. Once we get this further along we may track down a semi auto gun to do some reliability testing with. The conversion does not modify any of the springs and as you can see runs pretty damn fast. There well may be enough ass behind the conversion to function a semi just as reliably as the semi. If not, I am more than confident with a little R&D we could me units that will drop in and function.

We haven’t done a cyclic rate on it yet, as you can see though it’s pretty dang fast.

It fires faster than the MG-42 I had, and mine fired between 1,200 to 1,400 rounds a minute.

I agree $.50/.60 a round hurts. Makes for short range trips and long stretches in between em.. $.20 a round sounds MUCH better.

this is very cool although it's a slippery slope that goes 7.62x39 then x25 then LR. Trying to save money by replacing 8mm to 308 is the first step.

MG42 is cool because it fires a hard hitting (and yes, expensive) battle rifle cartridge. If you want to save money shoot airsoft or paintball.

It's a cool build though.

The reality is guys dont shoot them much due to the ammo cost. This conversion will allow the cheaper ammo to be shot for range plinking and save the expensive stuff for the zombies..

no I get it, don't take it the wrong way, it's hard enough to make a smooth running 308 conversion. Excellent job!
