Not a bad gun for the price.

Also fun are the Star Modelo Super in 9mm Largo. Have a few of those too.

Bought one from Classic, came with original matching box. All number match. 199 and picked it up from their local FFL. No shipping. Man, it shoots great, the bluing is great with just MINOR holster wear on the front edges. I always heard that if you liked 45 1911, you would love them in 9mm. Really fun to shoot, natural point, good sights. Only bitch is the importer stamp and serial SUCKS and they used something like an end mill bit to get the stars off in front of the original serial numbers.

Thanks I ended up cancelling the good one and ordered the VG one from grabagun. Better condition is worth the cost of 1 mag IMO.

Just picked mine up and as nice as it is I feel like ordering another. Looks to me like the grips were swapped on to this pistol because they show wear, but other than the grips you can tell it was fired very little. Came in original box with cleaning rod too.

That's good to know. Didn't know if Grabagun was selling them with the original box. I pick mine up this Monday at their storefront.

Post up some pics of your "Very Good" model. We'll see how my "Good" model compares.

Very nice. I sold my Diamondback DB380 so I could (justify) buying one of these. I'll post pics after I pick mine up tomorrow.

Picked up my Star BM from Grabagun today. Very pleased. It's a solid and well-built little pistol. Did a full detail strip on the frame and cleaned it after these pics were taken. Now just have to take it to the range...

Yep that's a nice one too! I ran about 50 rounds of Tula and WWB through mine yesterday without any problems.

I got mine Friday. It's in worse shape than the one I got from Classic, but I bought it for parts anyway. Looks like you got a nice one Martensite. Mine was a G, yours must be a VG.

I used the instructions located in the link below. The detail strip is very similar to that of a Ballester Molina of which I have a few and have taken them down before.

I paid for a "Good" model. Luck of the draw I guess.

Very easy to detail strip. I cleaned mine up and lubed it, put it back together in about a half an hour.

ETA half an hour to reassemble only.

Just thought I'd post some feedback on my new (used) Star BM. I ended up putting 200 rounds through the pistol today. I had one stovepipe. I also had quite a few (more than 5) failures to fire due to light primer strikes. It was not the ammo (Sellier and Bellot) as I have a 1000 rounds of this ammo and have been using it in all my 9mm's.

I'm going to get a new hammer spring and see if that doesn't solve the problem. In the meantime, I drifted out the rear sight and removed the firing pin retaining pin and then removed the firing pin to make sure the firing pin tunnel was clean. There really wasn't any issue with crud in the tunnel. It was actually pretty clean. So there was nothing in the tunnel causing binding of the firing pin.

So...I'm putting money on it being weak hammer spring. We shall see...

Got my new Hammer Spring in from e-sarcoinc.com and installed it. Now I've got to take it to the range to see if it fixes the light primer strike issue. I can tell you this...it was a helluva lot harder to install than the original.

Also FYI..Grabagun has the "good" pistols back in stock. I picked up another one yesterday. It's got some honest holster wear but internally it looks like it has hardly been shot. These little guns are like potato chips...you can't have just one.

i would get two and expect to have one plus slave parts at 79
they looked good and felt good but they werent flying off the shelves here at 199 and i can see why..for slightly more $$ theres much better current production and modern compacts. i want two of these but the price needs to be halved at least to justify this over say an xd mod2 for $329 shipped < < double stack > >

I've owned a pair for the better part of 15 years, from the last time they were imported back in the early '00s. They were about $150 then, so prices haven't gone up considerably in the past 15 years.

I bought two, because I thought like several of the posters above, that parts would be hard to get and super expensive when I could get them.

One of them has been my range beater with a considerable amount of all kinds of crap 9mm put through it, and the other one is a truck gun in another city where I have property.

I have only had to replace two parts on the beater gun over the last 15 years of abuse. Early on I replaced the bushing, as the one that originally came on it was damaged. I bought a replacement from the user "Star" over on gunboards, who used to be one of the only sources for Star parts anywhere.

Just last year, after countless rounds shot, I started to have hammer follow. I stoned the sear and the problem went away, but eventually came back. I bought a replacement sear from Numrich, and had the hammer looked at by a gunsmith I know, who spied a burr on the hammer hook that was beating the sear.

Been working like a champ since then.

I anticipate it continuing to be a range beater for many years in the future.

IMHO they are a "best buy" in inexpensive and well-constructed handguns. I've been fighting the urge to buy two more with this latest batch, just for kicks, but I don't know what I'd do with 'em, since my original two are still perfectly good.

I'm one of the folks who has also purchased two of them. I have found that e-sarcoinc.com has quite a few parts. Apparently they purchased a whole bunch of new parts when they were being imported. Once Numrich and Sarco's parts dry up, you're gonna be limited to Gunbroker and eBay.

Just got another from Aim, it's the best one, condition wise, so far. Shot 100 rounds yesterday with no issues. Top one is the Aim.

I've had one for a few years that I really enjoy. I was surprised to see $20 mags since when I bought mine I seem to remember not being able to find any for less than $50. I got a few p38 mags and modified them to work in the BM and a Helwan.

Yes, the magazines were quite expensive for years and years.

This latest batch of imports has brought the price of them down to a manageable level, fortunately.

The Star Model B was used in a great scene in this movie:

http://www.imfdb.org/wiki/Killer_Eli...)#Star_Model_B

A really good "guns" movie made in the old days.

while its good to see them break the $199 floor, they have excellent ones at my lgs for 199.
the 199 floor for milsurp pistols is set to fall hard. we have been looking at overpriced milsurp for way too long now. czechs, fegs, stars, etc should be $99. 92s should be $150
and new hi points should be $65ea
