What was on the trunnion? M72 B1 instead of M72 AB1? Did any of the numbers match? Is the bipod removable?

Some numbers matched, trunnion was m72b1, bipod was correct removable type. Build was good but reciever qaulity average, blueing was nice.

The one I picked up at the transferring FFL last night is stamped M72AB1 (whether it's original arsenal stamp, I dunno), and even the shipping box is marked "JRA JR-M72AB1". I found a pin laying inside the case, next to the rifle which I have to figure out yet (nothing obvious missing from the rifle -- I need to do a compare and contrast to another RPK/folder). Also, the metal butt pad portion of the folding stock doesn't pivot/fold (the stock does, but can't go all the way down due to the pad not pivoting). None of the numbers look to match. The bipod looks to be removable, but I haven't done so yet.

Last thought. If they took the trouble to stamp the trunnion, you'd think they'd make it match the other large part numbers. Instead, my guess is they received partial M72AB1 front ends and merged them with other parts to make a whole guns, but I'm open to other suggestions...

Mine came with a decent 30 round milsurp metal mag. Be nicer if it came with a decent 40 round milsurp mag, but it does beat getting a Promag.

I doubt that this is the case.

The markings that I have seen on the trunnions are all correct, including different locations based on serial number range. Also, all the other parts on my gun match, including the gas tube, just not to the trunnion. However, the serial range for all parts is correct for an AB1. I think these were just rebuilt guns. Keep in mind non-matching is fairly common for these rifles and they were probably kept in service awhile sense so few were produced. Basically JRA would have had to go through a lot of trouble and re-stamped all my parts to get it how it is today. Makes no sense that they would do that and not match the front trunnion.

The one I picked up has an M72ab1 marked trunnion. No other parts match the trunnion. A few match themselves though. The barrel pin hole looks a bit egged on one side also. The rest of the build looks much better than expected. Rivets all look good and everything it nice and tight. The removable bipod it really snug. I am debating on one of 2 things. 1.) Finding a ton of virgin parts and getting them stamped to match the trunnion. 2.) Buying an M72B1 kit with blank trunion and marking that trunnion as m72ab1 while rebuilding this gun on a childers receiver. I sure would like this rare gem to be made as best as possible. Would love to find a virgin original barrel to go with it.

I want to add a Yugo RPK to my collection someday. I saw these for sale and passed as I heard that JRA is hit/miss on quality, but it seems like they're ok for the money.

Is there such a thing as a virgin M72 barrel for these? That would be the way I'd like to go too.

Virgin M72 barrels are extremely hard to come by. Very few left but they do pop up and they are generally VERY expensive.

Thanks for the tip, is there anywhere to keep an eye on? I'm guessing the MP for one... I have a virgin build M70ab2 and it'd be nice to get another

These bad boys are back in-stock as of this AM. I regretted not getting one the last two times they were offered, so I pulled the trigger today. Looks like I'll be selling some SKS's to pay for it.

Fingers crossed for all numbers matching with the proper ab1 marked trunion.

$899.99 isn't that horrible a price for an RPK either though, and if we've learned anything from RPK history, it's that eventually they will dry up and the price will soar and most likely (barring a polar shift or something) people will be whining "why didn't I..." and kicking themselves in this very forum down the road.

Where are they getting the kits from? That's what I want to know. Each time they have them in stock they only have a few but still, it would be nice to find out where they're getting the kits from. All numbers matching with an AB-1 front trunnion seems to be a rarity with these offerings though. Each time I call them to see if they can find a numbers matching one with an AB-1 trunnion they never call me back even after I told them that I'd buy every one they have that are numbers matching with an AB-1 trunnion.

They are probably getting the kits from former Yugoslavia! When I checked yesterday they had 27 in stock.

Your right,my mistake, I removed my post. I confused myself and posted assuming the rifle in this discussion was the fixed stock m72

I have a question, does anyone know if the M70AB2 and M72AB1 folding stock assemblies are the same?

I picked up mine from my LGS today. I'm very happy and rate it 9 out of 10.

I got lucky with a M72AB1 marked trunion. Has the correct bipod and everything is nicely finished. The trunion serial number does not match the rest of the gun. The bolt & carrier match each other, the grip has its on number, and no other numbers are present. The wood is dark, but that's an easy upgrade I can do in the future.

My only complaint is the rsl. It's painted, not the bare metal look for the night sights. Not the end of the world, but it's the little details that sometimes matter more.

Does anyone know if this was common for the ab1's to have painted rsb's? Is it possible to polish the paint off?

For the price, you can't go wrong with one of these. The current going rate of the parts kits are higher than the $899 for the complete rifle.

JRA is bluing the rear sights...I don't believe it's correct. I keep trying to find a replacement sight, but I also don't want to deal with trying to polish mine.

Is it painted or blued? In either case, the face of it should be bare steel. I can post pics later if you need.

Blued. JRA confirmed they are bluing then when I called looking to get a bare one. Unfortunately they have no spare sights.

It’d be an easy fix, just hit the face with some very fine grit paper or steel wool/scotchbrite. Failing that, I may have a spare somewhere I can swap you if you don’t feel comfortable cleaning it up. The EP number on the rear of the sight won’t match the rest of your rifle—not the end of the world since your front trun is a mismatch already
