Default Alpha clone

I would like to build an alpha clone. I am in between using my Saiga 5.45 or buying an slr106 for this project.

Any pics of your build/clone or thoughts would be appreciated.

Thanks

I used a Bulgarian 74 parts kit , built it and filed for sbr form 1.

12.5 inch barrel
Ak105 FSB:GB

Zenitco railed lower handguard
Zenitco railed /hinged dust cover
Russian 5.5mm M4 stock adaptor
Zenitco extended charging handle.
KAC forgeip / also used a BCM stubby grip as well.
Hogue M4 buttstock
Manticore Night brake muzzle device.

Its currently out getting cerekoted in a desert tan / od green camo scheme.
Also Recently added a Krebs enhanced safety selector.

Mine...
Did it with a Saiga 5.45 and had Troy at InRange do the conversion with all Russian parts other than the FCG (ALG), M4 tube adapter (CAA) and buttstock (CAA).

Yes but I had to file down the area at the hinge on the buffer tube so it would fold correctly. It won't lock though since there is no lip to grab onto with the latch. From what I have seen, the intent of the buffer tube adapters was never to really fold and stow, more or less just to add a M4 style stock to a folding hinge AK-100 rifle.

easiest way to do it is buy a 106cr and put the zenitco B30/B31/B33 on it. Chop the barrel on it and pin the cnc warrior 3.5in extended 4 piece flash hider. for the stock use a jmac customs mod1 or 2. some people sbr theirs but 1 inch off the muzzle device isn't worth it to me.

Thats the true genius of the design and why it remains ubiquitous to this day.

I love that color scheme too

I did this one almost 10 years ago on an SLR107UR then repeated it on the 104FR
Not Syrian inspired but those colors rock

If you've never done one it's a tough call. It's not the easiest thing in the world to spray a nicely done Arsenal finish. Even I hesitate on doing my ZenitCo rails, mostly because I don't want to paint a matching optic, but partly because I don't want to paint the ZenitCo because of how nice it is

That said once you do it, painting could be (and for me was) a liberating experience. I haven't looked at rifles the same way since painting and am planning on doing an AR in the near future. I guess it was tough to break out of the black rifle mentality because it had always been there since I was in the military and as a civilian, but once I painted the SLR107UR things changed and I really really dig it

I didn't think twice about doing the 104FR and am really damn happy with it as is. Felt good

eta

I am really thinking hard on doing the AK105 in some greener/darker scheme

Man those are good looking. I’d love to get a can on mine. I do know what you mean about it being liberating, I’ve done other rifles before. But never one that was this pristine. I have an idea in my head, I just gotta make a few cardboard practice runs first.

i legitely loled....
yah it is a weird looking thingy, love it though, cant see myself going back to full size ak anymore.. One in 5.45 is 127 times more fun!

Speaking of paint jobs, its about time for it. Have a set of those fancy looking Russian surpat style camo pixels that has been laying around for few years now, will finally put it to use.

If I were you, I would go with 5.56, simply because it will have value in the future. 5.45 rifles are going to drop in value when ammo isn't cheap. If you have tons of 5.45, go for it. If not, go with 5.56.

Here are a couple I did:
