Default GONA BE HARD TO BACK TO 12ga

I broke in my Mossy 500 20ga fri. Ran some #3buckshot 3/4oz deer slugs #7 birdshot. Got to say I really like the diffrence in recoil. With regard to the diffrence in ballistics I dont doubt the 12 trumps the 20ga in that category. Though in typical 4 bed rm house size distance I doubt a bg will know the diffrence between a 1oz or 3/4oz slug tearing thru his chest at 1400fps. Truth be told I love a 12ga my shoulder on the other hand tends to favor the 20ga. Anyhow Im already skeeming on getting a 20ga autoloader. The Hatsan's got some good models. The Mossy sa20 is also nice and made by Hatsan go figure.

Ithaca model 37 featherweight in 20 gauge is a suggestion... Not sure if it was ever made in a riot gun, the 12 gauge riot gun is a sure proven blaster.

I too cant help but wonder what broke, Mossbergs are typically pretty easy to fix, all things considered.... Why throw out a good weapon when you may be able to salvage it?

Edit: OH! BROKE IN! Sorry, I misunderstood, disregard....

It's as fun as it sounds. I've got a Saiga in 20ga. It's a hoot! Also much easier on you when blasting away.

You Really have to try the 20ga. At very least youll reconsider the 12ga. Shooting buckshot or 3/4oz slugger was actualy pleasant for me. My 12 ga guns are already collecting dust lol.

Benelli. Hands down.

Remington 11-87 or an 1100 is nice if it runs good.

The aftermarket sucks for the 20ga though. There's more popping up for them at least.

I have an SA-20 Tactical that's run 100% with buck and slugs. Very manageable little gun. I like it a lot. The trigger smoothed out nicely to about 8lbs. The crossbolt safety was pretty clunky initially but it's smoothed out some too. For a sub 500 dollar gun, I'm very impressed with the fit and finish on it. I've since added a mag extension and a pumpkin puncher as well as a velcro shell card to the receiver. I need to put more rounds through it now. Haven't shot anything since before shoulder surgery.

My freinds Remi 1100 is what convinced me to get my first 20ga shoty. Nice looking great shooting gun the gas system really makes it a pussycat to shoot even heavy buckshot. I just dont get why their in the 900 -1200$ range. Im more likely to get a Hatsan made SA20 or Gladius 20ga models.

I'm definitely not paying that for a new Remington.

Huh did not know that Hatsan made the SA-20. Been looking at that one for awhile for my boys and you complement my 12 Gauge line up.

As far as self-defense goes, famed gun writer and trial expert Mags Ayoob is a huge fan of the 20 GA esp in houses where someone of smaller stature might have to use it in an emergency.

He points out that getting hit with buckshot out of a 20 is equivalent to getting hit w a .44 Magnum -- twice. Seems like it would be a lot faster on target as well if you had the nightmare scenario of multiple attackers.

The biggest difference between a 12 and 20ga is the number of pellets. And the 20 being limited to #3 in most cases. (Rio makes a #1 Buck 9 pellet load. I've not had a chance to try it in my SA-20 but it's also a little longer than a normal star crimp shell so it'll probably make you lose 1 round of capacity in a tube fed.)

20 vs 12 gauge? Actually, you want both. Truth be told, my humble 20 gauge 870 has taken more varmits than my 12's. It's lighter, quicker and easy to aim.
