Default Another damn poll! Home defence

I'm sure there have been similar threads on this but hey why not?

If an unlucky gentleman were to break in tonight what type of weapon would you most likely have when you confront said individual?

The AK rests against the bedpost with a 60 rd coffin mag.
The Glock 19 in a drawer next to it.
I guess it could be either one or both depending on the mood.

I need to pick more than one...a 74 on my side of the bed and a 15 for the missus. Fully loaded with steel core for both.

From a dead sleep... Glock 22 .40 S&W loaded with 180 grain Speer Gold Dot and wearing a Streamlight TLR1 HL light. Same weapon I carry at work, and off duty.

Old western field pump cut down to 18" with a flash light taped to it for when things go bump in the night.

Ar pistol.
I told my wife and if I ever hollered out at night to cover her ears because it's fixing to get loud.

I keep a 357 Smith in my nightstand and a Mossberg 590 next to my bed. Thinking I need a nice 45 with a light as well just because I can't mount a light on my revolver.

AK-74 for me.

Really though any SCHV rifle would suffice. PCC would be a close second. Those two are most likely to make hits, not over penetrate and risk harming those you wish to protect. They're going to offer more points of contact, aiding in retention if the bad guy gets in close. They're also among the most reliable and simplest to use, remember it's zero dark thirty and you're not fully conscious.

Glock 17 with 124 grain hydra-shok rounds if the need is absolutely immediate. AR with 73 grain Hornady critical defense rounds if I have time to get to the other side of my bedroom.

You actually posted for me too.

On stand beside my bed is a tactical flashlight and a milspec 1911 THAT IS TOTALLY RELIABLE loaded with 230-grain HP defensive ammo.

Beside that is my 12-guage tactical shotgun loaded with 00 Federal Police Tactical ammo.

And I should become pretty alert pretty fast as on the other side of my bed on the floor in her basket is my female GSD who is a very light sleeper.

She does not bark a lot at night so IF she does bark I become wide awake pretty quickly.

I know many look down their nose at a 1911 but did you ever see what a well-place double tap from a 1911 can do to a VC? Ouch.

S&W shield if needed immediately. DDM4 V7 (purchased before Marty Daniel publicly supported fixnics) or Mossberg 590a1 depending on what’s loaded and in my room that day, if I have time to grab it. Probably gonna switch out the shield for one of my glocks or p226 just because they hold more.

This one is easy, shotgun all the way. In the dark when all you can see is shadows its a no brainer, pretty easy decision. Second choice would be my 19 with mounted light. The very last choice I would ever choose is a high powered rifle(AR/AK etc) to shoot indoors due to ear sound concussion/over penetration.

Easy.

5.56 AR. (or like chknfkr said, a smaller caliber, high velocity, round).

Less chance of over penetration through walls after good hits.

End the fight quickly and unfairly.

Given you gave no parameters on what type of "home" you are defending, gotta go with a pump shotgun, most versatile and adaptable to a wide range of "homes" and scenarios.

My 40 Watt Plasma Rifle if I am still sleepy. If wide awake, my Ruger 3200 Random Vortex field generator - literally blast the intruder into another dimension....

Or

The same shit I have said, over these kinds of threads for the last 10 years.

I.e. probably just a scattergun. Nothing uber cool or fanboy tactical for me, just flat out effective. Course in reality, the alarm system would be going and the intruder would probably be scurrying back out of the house with ringing ears...

Pistol if I'm sleeping otherwise an ar or ak. Depends how I'm feeling that day.

Either way I'm screaming Abracadabra before I start shooting.

My cameras would be beeping at me and the dog barks at things to bump in the night. So I do have a moment of heads up. answer to the question is still the same, whatever is closest to my right hand if I think I need it.

By the way, cameras are not all that. Sure the one time it's great. Do you know how many pics of my cat get sent to my phone everyday?

I own a musket for home defense, since that’s what the founding fathers intended. *Four ruffians break into my house. *"What the devil?" as I grab my powdered wig and Kentucky rifle. *Blow a golf ball sized hole through the first man, he's dead on the spot. *Draw my pistol on the second man, misses him entirely because it's smoothbore and nails the neighbor's dog. *I have to resort to the cannon mounted at the top of the stairs loaded with grape shot. *"Tally ho lads" the grape shot shreds two men in the blast, the sound and extra shrapnel set off car alarms. *Fix bayonet and charge the last terrified rapscallion. *Bleeds out waiting on the police to arrive since triangular bayonet wounds are impossible to stitch up. Just as the founding fathers intended.

For you guys thinking your going to fire off potentially 1-10 (AK/AR)high power rifle rounds in the confines of your house you should pop off 5 rounds at the range with no hearing protection. Your choice will probably change, its great to think 1 round will get the job done but what it more are needed? Remember were are talking shooting off a rifle round between the walls, I am not going to tell a grown man what to protect himself with, but its something to think about as a ruptured eardrum is very painful. A 9mm pistol and shotgun shot in a walled area is loud enough.
