And what projects are those? It is getting about time for me to buy another AK clone of some sort, but I need something interesting, those RPKís almost did it, I might have to get one when they come back in stock.

There is a old WW2 saying Loose Lips Sink Ships...... We rarely pre hype or discuss projects for this reason. As we have shown over the last few years we are not sitting by the wayside and we are listening to our clients trying to offer something different .

^^^^ That is one funky rail install. But in the Middle East anything goes.
Maybe in the USA with bubba that is true as well. A Dremel and a tube of JB Weld and away we go.

I took that picture, itís a 5.45 Romy RPK, thatís the scope rail Romanian troops were using, I think it was to mount a larger night vision optic

^^ Interesting. Sure looks home spun but for a NV I guess it makes sense on the location and height & offset.

I don't know how I didn't see this thread till just now.

I was going to have an M14 built for me this fall, but this looks just as heavy, just as pretty, and cheaper to buy, cheaper to shoot...
I may be in for the next run. That M14 might have to wait.

What are the experiences of the guys who bought one so far?

So either no one on the files got one, no one wants to comment, or the people that got one just don't really frequent this sub-forum.

I hate to re-post on other sub-forums, but I [or someone] may need to ask the above two questions in the General Rifle sub-forum to fish out the members who have one.

I want to know, before they come out with the next batch. I've been day dreaming about adding a RPK to my collection just to say I have an RPK.
I also think it'd be funny to run a comp with an RPK. I'd get some looks for sure; particularly if I beat some non-rookies.

I don’t have one but it’s built by AF so I’m sure build quality is top notch. I was also debating buying one but I have a original barreled M64 kit waiting to be built, so I passed. Still is tempting but I think I’m gonna put a SAM7SF on layaway instead. Anyways hope some reviews pop up on here.

I do not have the AF RPK but I do have several and they are some of my favorite AKs to shoot. I have a thing for LMGs and the RPK just does that so well with out being overly complicated or excessively expensive.

True.
I've been looking at the H-CAR and 1918 since OOW started making them, but can't justify that kind of money on what would effectively be a heavy toy. The RPK would fit a similar role, just won't be as heavy of a hitter.

I read that a lot of people consider the BFPU a USA rpk, Mostly because of the barrel.

How is the quality of these barrels compared to the true Romanian barrels?

These are indeed true barreless kit builds [USA made RPK]. The GM barrels are the best we seem to have in the US outside of a custom Kalash barrels. They seem to be pretty decent under 8,000 or so rounds from all other reports.

Youíre an asshole. Seriously. I could have lived my entire life happily, not knowing a 1918 was an option...

One of my other LMG style rifles is the Israeli HB FAL in .308. It was less than half the price of the HCAR or 1918 BAR and a whole lot lighter. Fine shooter.

I looked at those when the gun rags where hocking them but the price tag was too high for me.

Is it possible to put a carry handle on this model or is that not possible without welding it onto the barrel or no?

I've been chomping at the bit to pick up an RPK for a while, but those AES10B's are hard to find for a decent price. If this thing had a carry handle or was compatible for one, I'd maybe give up on the 10B. Between an RPK or a tac driving .308 semi, I've got money in my pocket burning a hole for either one.

Pretty sure these are typically welded. You could add yourself with a good amount of disassembly. At that point you may as well just buy a parts kit and build/have it built yourself.

The carry handle pivot plate is welded to the RSB. It could be added without too much fuss by a welder.

So it doesn't need to be removed for the weld?

Ideally yes, but not necessary to attach the pivot plate.

That is good news, I saw the email notification but was busy at work, I figured I would buy one when I got home, only to find out they were sold out!

I will just have to snap on it sooner next time!

Here is a photo of how the Romanians welded the carry handle mount, it's only welded to the RSB and not the barrel. It wouldn't be a big deal to add, you do need to take the lower hand guard off.
Has anyone seen complete carry handle and mounting bracket offered for sale anywhere ?

Apex has the handle, I do not see the curved plate it enters though: https://www.apexgunparts.com/aes-10-...andle-new.html

I bought the handle from Apex and used heavy gauge sheet metal, heated it up and bent it around a piece of bar stock that was the same size then welded it to my RSB and one spot weld on the barrel for good measure.
