I was just up at the LGS. They have a Chicago typewriter thompson up there, stamped for the atlanta police department for $17k and a MP5 for $12.5k. That was even before you start haggling with them on the price. You can save up that much in a year by dining in and not hitting the club every friday and saturday.

I'm not a MP5 guy so I don't know what I'm looking at. Maybe a HK 53?
![]() I do know what a tommy gun is, though. It took everything I had in me to walk out of that store without trying to buy it. And I'll be thinking about it all month. ETA - Ok, I called them up and got the story on that HK. Its a pre-86 HK-53. They bought it off one of the soldiers here at Ft. Gordon. Its been registered as a SBR. When I was in the store earlier, the guy said it was "transferable", and I assumed he meant transferable full auto. So its not a machine gun.. My bad. The tommy is full auto, though . ![]() Last edited by giantpune; 08-24-2018 at 02:20 PM. |

Damn, that's a bit steep for an SBR! There is a regular old HK93 on Gunbroker right now for $3K with no bids. I'm pretty sure I could get Gunplumber or somebody to convert it for less than $9.5K!
Why would pre-86 matter on an SBR? AFAIK, up until they started neutering them to comply with the '89 ban an HK is an HK. |

A 1921 Thompson for 17K is most likely a parts gun. Maybe also has a welded receiver. A lot of those were hastily put together and registered when the Hughes Amendment was made law. I've got a M1928A1, One of the last 28's made before the M1 Thompson came along. It has a smooth barrel, peep rear site, no knurling on FCG safe and fire levers. It is not a parts gun, and no sign of welding shows on the receiver interior. It took me 3 yrs to save up for this toy. I'm retired, and have 3 pension checks coming in. Children are all grown, though sometimes they still need help from dad. So, you can save up for a toy you really want, many auto weapons are in the under $10,000 range. Just make sure they are not a rebuilt parts gun.
