Many moons ago my mom and sis were digging into the nephews chest to retrieve a BB and I stopped them, and went to the fridge and grabbed a magnet Presto, pulled the BB with no digging.. Lil fucker turn out to be liberal, I should have let them dig it out..

I tried using a magnet but it didn't work.

I wish The Greek a full recovery. There are "Rare Earth " magnets. Mine is 3"x1"x1/2" and requires extreme strength to remove from a steel safe door. Cost about $20-25. British medical doctors used powerful magnets on D Day and onward.

Thanks again for the well wishes everybody. I'll be ok, it's just gonna take a few days to heal, that's all. The pain today was noticably less than yesterday thankfully. Hopefully when I go back to the eye doctor tomorrow to have the rest of the rust ring ground out it doesnt aggrevate the injury and bring the pain back up to where it was yesterday. If it does there's nothing I can do about it anyway, the rust ring needs to be removed.

I can't imagine how painful and uncomfortable that has to be. Hope the last rust ring treatment goes better than the first.

It is definately hard not to flinch when you see a needle and a drill bit coming straight at your eye, that's for sure. It would be easier not to flinch if the metal was stuck in the white part of my eye but it was stuck almost right in the center of my eye, just below the pupil. It's a real uncomfortable feeling when you see the tools coming straight at your eye and you're not supposed to move. I don't know how I did it but I managed not to flinch. The last thing I wanted was to flinch while they were working with the needle and the drill bit and make the injury worse.

This is one of the most important safety items in my shop. I'm sure it has saved me from quite a few trips to the ER. A grinding shield hood is the way to go!

Well they did the second grinding session today and now the pain is back. To make things worse I need to go back AGAIN on Thursday for yet another grinding session because they still couldn't get it all because the rust ring was so deep. This sucks.

I feel for you OP. A couple of years ago I was working in a dark barn prying some rusty nails out. Since it was dark I took my tinted eye protection off. Welp, it was a freak series of events, but I had a stubborn rusty nail get flung right at my eye and scratch my cornea.

Just a heads up-YMMV, but every once in a blue moon when I turn my AC off in the mornings and that gust of air hits that eye, I can sometimes feel an ache.

Got the rusty eye? Like brown eye rust?

Just kidding. Yeah the rust thing is pretty common from what I've heard. I've been pretty lucky given how many dumb things with metal I've done. Best wishes for the anti-lib greek.

I had LASIK and understand how unsettling it is having sharp things come towards your eye. I hope everything goes well for you!

My eye hurts so fucking bad right now it isn't funny. I cant even open it and just a few minutes ago it felt like someone jammed a red hot piece of wire into it. They REALLY did a number on it today with the grinder. I figured it was gonna hurt again after they ground it again but I didn't think it was gonna be like this, it hurts more now than ever.

Had this happen a few times. The first time I went to the ER at the biggest hospital in the state and they did nothing but give me and eye patch and send me to my OD. So the next time I went to the OD right off. Both times he ground out the object and gave me antibiotics and steroid drops. He told me with the steroid drops it would be healed within a day. It was.

I was wearing full coverage goggles one of the times. Took the googles off and the damn sliver that got me fell out of my hair and I rubbed it into the eye.

Hey Greek. Don't know what the laws are like in AZ but I've prescribed hydrocodone (level III controlled substances) to patients in your situation before. I don't like to make a habit of it because it just opens the door for doctor shopping pill heads to try and take advantage of it but you're a case where it would be warranted.

I'm surprised they didn't give you some numbing drops to take home with you. My dad was an ironworker back in the day when safety glasses were just a suggestion and he got metal in his eyes from time to time. Whenever he did he would come home with a little small bottle of pontocaine which is probably the stuff they used to numb your eye. Not sure on the spelling but that's what it sounded like. Also, get well soon. I don't want any Antifa sneaking up on your blind side.

I had a chip dead center in the pupil many years ago. I could see the end of the "drill" spinning as it entered.

It's really, really, REALLY difficult to "keep your focus on the little red light" when the surgeon is working on the eye.

I feel for you Greek - I've been there a few times. I too remember the day when a faceshield was required for heavy grinding, but safety glasses were just suggested for everything else. That changed over time. Every time I require a visit to the surgeon for removal of a metal chip; that's right - I was wearing my glasses.

Safety is an attitude and practice - not a piece of equipment. The equipment never protected me 100%.

I am still around a lot of metalcutting operations and wear glasses when "appropriate" which is probably 60%-75% of the time. Trust me; if the chips are not falling straight down the glasses are on. I also have them on any time I am using a press or driving tools - they worry me much more than metal chips.

One more cornea grinding session to go hopefully, it's at 4 o'clock today. Not looking forward to the severe eye pain again later on after the numbing drops wear off....
