This project looks great! Is it needed to take off the front sight block? I think that would be the main reason I wouldn't want to do it.

Not as slick looking as the solution VTB has come up with, in my opinion, but still an interesting adaptation of the SVD to allow modern optics to (I'm assuming) stay in place when the rifle is disassembled.

Any info on those parts or makes them?

So the first issue to solve would be
A. Convert long-stroke piston system to a short-stroke piston system
Or
B. Leave long-stroke piston but make it possible to unscrew the piston from the carrier while carrier is still inside the reciever. (Look at PWS long stroke ARs)

So if it's possible to make a free floated AK with low sitting rail? Yes.
Should it be done to AK system where there are already billion of alternatives - honestly idk.
I mean if someone whish to pay for it - we do have ideas but i doubt the the project would be a commercial success.

We took SVD as a base since it's possible to make 1MOA system with factory ammo relatively easy. Basically we
1. Free float the barrel
2. Convert gasblock to clamp-on type
3. Eliminate all points of pressure from the barrel
4. Make rail fixed to reciever

Regarding PSL:
from my personal point of view it's just AK with +-normal magazine and normal quality. Should one mimic SVD short stroke piston for it -i don't think so, since at first place it just a mimic of SVD and tryout to earn additional.money on "i_wanna_be_an_svd" feeling.
I mean it makes sence to use existing svd parts if they are cheap and readily available but to make them from scratch - well.. not my cup of tea.

What i'm sure is that HK417 gas piston system can be easily adopted to PSL and since we make Hk417 adjustable gasblock we'll see what we can do.
^ok, thanks for the info vtb, was wondering if you had PSL HG replacements in the works(i.e a elongated AK style railed HG replacements)?.

Regarding AK rail - if someone at this forum will say that there is a need for at least 50 sets of freefloated handguards + top rail [but which will require front trunion replacement (and it means that guys will be ready to make the replacement)] - we'll move our ideas into production.

Meanwhile - decided to paint my rifle into sand color.

I almost bought another Tigr, but couldn't justify what I would do with two. My depression era father used to say " one for each foot". Now I know what I would have done with it. I am really beginning to hate the Czechs. CZ's, Pilsener Urquell, Zalpalky's and now this, maybe we can set up direct deposit. That is some nice work, and beautiful too.

Is there enough meat on a Tiger barrel to cut 5/8x24 right hand threads?

If I was doing one like this I think I'd want to put an AAC 51T mount on for my SDN-6.

I have 5/8-24tpi on my SVD cutted to 570mm (22")
Shoulder is small so conical crushwasher is a must.

Tiger on this photo do have the same barrel profile - 16.6mm (.653") barrel diameter from the muzzle to gasblock.

I apologize as this is slightly off topic but I have to ask since it is really the only time I have seen it used. How do you like the Leupold D-EVO?

What ammo are you guys planning to run for distance?

If something corrosive like 7N1, how do you guys remove and reinstall the operating rod and spring?

I've made a smaill review on it:
http://mbd.scout.com/mb.aspx?s=541&f=5511&t=14292150

But since i've used it a bit more can add the following
1. It's the best idea optic industry came with since 1-8x scopes.
2. It's the best combo (reddot + devo) for AR platform.
But
3. Due linitations of devo (small adjustment range and small eye relief) it's not shining on AK platform.

In simple words - when you set it up under the eye - it shines.

We use civilian 7N1
To clean the operating rod and spring you just unscrew whole gas regulator from the gasblock and move it left (right) and forward.

Reinstall backwards

I'd say that this is her DMR config for now.

Now it's time to make 15.5" shorty from the Tiger.

Have you guys tried handloading for these?

While 7N1 seems to do the best of available light ball, there isn't a single Tiger/SVD owner on this side of the pond that's dipped their toes into handloading 54R and not found a more accurate load.

A 200gr Lapua D166 over IMR4064 gave me the best groups. You guys can probably get them cheaper than us.

Never thought about this rifle as about rifle to reload for.
But
If you take round with green laquerete steel brass, remove the bullet (usially these rounds are 200 gr softpoints so the powder is "slow"), and carefully weight the powder from the round to suit 174 .303 SMK (https://www.sierrabullets.com/store/...HPBT-MatchKing) you'll have your magic round.
Regarding bullet weight don't forget SVD and Tigers had 2 twist rates 1:12 and 1:9.5 so 174gr SMK suits them both.
If you don't want to use the powder from the round - pick the slow powder suitable for .30-06

Why use steel brass - because when you remove bullet from it and but new bullet back you won't need to crimp it.

But again - all safety measures are on your side

Well aware of the differing twist rates between the Tigers and old SVDs vs the post-1991 SVDs. I've never even tried the 200gr Lapuas out of my Tiger for this reason.

Would be interesting to see just how much accuracy you could wring out of these with all the additional free-floating going on.

Me too as I am curious about this set of modifications and excited about how much better it shoots than it did in it's old configuration.
