I have 2 Gorka 3's, i have used 1 set to hunt for 2 seasons, wear the jacket to the bar when it rains...only one belt loop has come loose of stitching but it took 2 sec to re sew it, possibly from pulling the belt out to fast. Other than that they are good quality for the price.

Sure you will get wet faster in Gorka when standing in a pouring rain, but it does do a fine job repelling water for a while. When hunting, i spent 6 or 7 hours in the rain- light rain and under a tree. Water did eventually "get" through, but it was just damp on the inside.

i own 2 gortex parkas and prefer Gorkas hands down

I second this

Iíve worn my Tan and olive Gorka hunting my family property
Only a pair of sweats and thermals on under and it was pretty nice
Till the wind shifted

I've been window shopping Gorka's for years but haven't seen any reliable reviews until now.

For you guys that own them: Have you ever tried a DWR on it to improve water repellency? The have a wash-in and a spray-on that is made for Gore-Tex (presumably to preserve 'breathability').

I talked to a russian hunter on instagram and he said he had used this but also that the gorka can be soaked so im not sure, also I havent used that any of that rain gaurd stuff before.

For me at least the plan will be to get a ponch and wool under garments just in case. Think the gorka is to buy you time only. Interdastingly ww2 soviet ponchos are $30 on amazon and widly available online, they too are a camvas material and will also become soaked over time. That might not be a bad idea to rain proof it with the spray also.

Alot of places I've lived in have spring/summer showes in the afternoon then clear up almost everyday like in alaska interior. In the mountains this is really common, a gorka should get you by most of the time in this case but isnt a rain suit.

I'll keep doing testing. Im very sick with a chest/head cold or else the weather in the mountains tge last few days would be perfect its rain/snow mix off and on

Never thought about these, and they really look great. Thanks for the review.

Thanks for sharing that. I am having a hard time figuring out why it wouldn't be easier to just do that to the the ECWCS Gen III Level 5. Multicam is till good cammo and the Level 5 stuff has DWR too. I really like some of that Gorka stuff but I just can't justify the expense. They do have great patterns though.

I believe the technical term is "Gucci."

Truth be told, in my (limited) experience, most Eastern (Soviet/RUS) camouflage patterns from the modern day are more effective than Western equivalents, mostly because there are so many a different pattern can be used for each specific environment. Imagine that!

Ok,
Here is a question based on reality.

What are the washing instructions? Eventually you gonna have to "Warsh" the sucker.

Nick,
Hopefully this weekend I will put the AK74 drum thru some paces.....

If you`re convinced you have to really WASH it, treat it like a good set of jeans; wash it separately of your other clothes. The canvas will fuck up everything else. Honestly though, it`s so tough I~d suggest just wiping or brushing whatever off of it.
