Default Romy SAR series actually military issue?

Hi folks,

Iíve read a bunch about the SAR series back in the day, specifically that the SAR-1 was issued for training purposes till the recruits were given fully automatic AKís. Was this true of the other SARís in the series? The SAR-3 in 5.56 doesnít seem like it would have been used the same considering they never came in with actual 5.56 mags (just converted ones). BUT, how about the SAR-2? They do use their 74 variant and it seems logical to train the same way with the SAR-2? Maybe?

Anyone confirm that or if itís a load of BS? Thanks!

No.

They were produced for the United States consumer market.

The SAR-2 benefited greatly from the fact that the Romanian military AK-74 variant was in simultaneous production.

The Romanian equivalent of our National Guard were issued "G" AKM rifles. They were essentially Md 63s that had the auto sear clipped off making it semi only, but also if needed they could be easily reconverted to select fire. They had an orange "G" on the rear sight block and black paint on the end of the stock.

The SAR lines are not Romanian military weapons in anyway. They are the one of the closet the United States ever got to a production military weapon from Romania. However they still have to be compliant under US import laws.

I like mine. It shoots as well as I do out to 100m.
Had a guy at a local show tell me it was a $100 gun.
I guess he thought I wanted to trade it towards his Waffen Works Bulgarian there.
