Default Estonia Galil SAR/ARM

As you may have noticed, am somewhat obsessed with the idea of "modernizing" my Galil SAR. Of the efforts and products that were made recently allowing the SAR to take on some bling, the Estonian Galil SAR/ARM is one I particularly like. It adorns the SAR/ARM with basics but does not muddle it with things that Fab Defense would do to your firearm (not all Fab products are over the top as implied). The basic upgrade the Estonian Galil have are, the B&T handguard (most, not all went this route), the horizontal charging handle adapter (again, not all went this route), the Aimpoint Comp M4S and in some, a magnifier mount installed right in front of the rear sight. The magnifier mount is what's of interest to me. Would appreciate it if anyone can ID, point to where it can be purchased or what best DIY approach can one take to mount such. Am assuming it's also a B&T as it was B&T that was awarded this upgrade from what I read. Here is a picture of the "modernized" Galil SAR/ARM.

and another

Thanks for pic upgrade N. Was reading further on the Estonia Galil. Purchased around 1995, upgraded in 2008, some done by B&T and solicitation has been recently issued to replace these rifles both the 5.56 and the 7.62 cal.

Ron, looks like it will be difficult to find one. May communicate with B&T and see if they reply at all or may have one welded on to a top cover. Minor movement shouldn't be much of an issue as it will only hold a magnifier if at all.

Handguard is finally here. Still seeing if it's growing on me. The Estonian Galil SAR.

B&T fore grip tan painted black as could not find a black one. May take off the light.....this is really becoming heavy!

No troubles mounting....exact fit, no movement at all. It's slightly heavier than the previous set up (railed gas tube with optic sitting on it). It's only heavy if you pick it up first thing in the morning, says the man with athritic hands! Will be on the lookout for the magnifier mount and a matching B&T Unigrip (fore grip).....none available and maybe this will be it's final configuration.

Where can I find a muzzle attachment like that? 1/2 X 28 or 13MX1. Looking for one. Thanks!

Mullicrk would be in the best position to answer your question. I think it's a copy of the Galatz muzzle break.

You are correct Marcoc....it is. Also a perfect length to extend a SAR barrel. When you get your SBR paperwork back that rifle is gonna look even sweeter!

Marcoc do you know if that rear sight mount is a weld on or rail type bolt on? I couod fab up a rail and weld it on if I knew. Of course some height dimensions would be nice. I know you can get a 30mm mount easy enough.

I also know you want B and T stuff so this is another option....let me know man.

I guess a short low profile picatinny rail welded to the flat surface of the cover right in front of the rear sight will do. Then, I'll have to look for a magnifier mount that co-witnesses with optic. It will have to be a perfect co-witness as the magnifier is some distance from the optic. In the meantime, I need to pause!

The originals use B&T (Brugger and Thomet of Switzerland) mounts, probably custom done for Estonia. Other then the handguards, I have never seen the Galil mounts advertised. The mounts have the Estonian lions on them.

I have good pics of all the Estonian variants in volume 7 of my book series, the AK47 catalog.

Thanks for the info. If only these things were easily importable. One of these days they'll make their way here.....maybe.

Had to at least find out if it is at all feasible to have a magnifier work that far from the red dot. Cannot find the mount in the picture but found a railed AK top cover that works...I think and mounted (cheap mount I had) and a new vortex (good reviews for the price) magnifier and....Voila! It works! When I do get some extra $$$ I'll get an eotech or aim point magnifier.

The Blackthorne railed top cover is not doing it for me.....because I have ants in my pants (as my mother would always say), I put on a rail on a Galil top cover and will do some matte black painting. Am waiting for a better magnifier and mount. This is it for now.

Tried an Aimpoint magnifier but am getting a better sighting with the Vortex so this may be the final Estonia Galil SAR....found a B&T lightweight bipod.....this thing needs it!

Why are you set on using a red dog and magnifier? Why not just a magnified optic and save some weight?

He's trying to emulate "the look" of what some of the Estonian troops are fielding.
