What's funny is my new $20 Field Sport Micro Red Dot looks better than my $85 Primary Arms MD-FBG-II. Outside, they appear about the same quality, both have the same amount of bluish-green tint looking through the lens, both are about equal brightness, but the dot on the Field Sport is actually better. It's more of a defined dot, as opposed to kind of a line on the PA.

I mentioned it earlier, but the PA has already taken a shit, and it did it the first or second time out. PA replaced it quickly, but it still died. We'll see what the cheapie does, but so far, it seems a bit better and it's 1/4 the price. Some think if a certain name is on something, it makes it better. I don't necessarily buy that, but then again, I have the optics I'm discussing, some that have commented probably don't.

I took my Field Sport apart to tighten the screws beneath the battery. You have to remove the collar and circuit board and you will see them. Mine were pretty loose. Would be a good idea to use some lock-tite on them too but I'll see how long it lasts. People on amazon complain about the dot going on and off and that's the reason. Those loose screws and not tightening the battery cover down enough with a coin.

I had one of those type sights that I bought from a vendor at a gun show. It wouldn't hold zero between range trips (had to re-zero each time I took it). I saw the vendor again a year or so later and he swapped me for the "new/improved" version....same story. I'm glad some have had good luck but to me they are a worthless POS and I always state such to anyone that asks me about getting one.

Was it an Osprey? I had one of their scopes and it crapped out on me.

It might have been. The vendor did sell that brand but the box my sight came in was unmarked.

Ah. I don't remember the box it came in. But it crapped out on me after somewhere between 20 and 30 rounds with the .308 I had at the time. I do my best to avoid them at gun shows (I only look for vintage scopes now) because of that. Even tell my friends to avoid them, not that they listen.

I don't distrust all cheap optics, but I'm certainly not using them for self defense or hunting.

Mine still works...the issue is the physical mount itself. The method of adjusting zero (screws that move entire sight up-down/left-right) simply doesn't hold the setting. I got tired of having to readjust it for every range trip.

Mine was on a 5.56 but i would never consider putting a sight like this on a.308.

I bought one of those POS $20 chinese optics at a gun show about 8 years ago. Put it on my SGL21 and ~ three mags in the POA/POI started shifting. A couple mags later the optic stopped working altogether.

You get what you pay for.

I could buy any red dot I know of. Will I buy a $600+ red dot when the whole gun cost $400? No. but, I bought these cheapies out of curiosity, not necessity.

I'm just curious as to how good or bad they really are. For $20, it'd be hard to complain too much, but if they work well for a while or longer, it'd be interesting to know, and possibly impressive.

To answer your question, YOU, you're the idiot and so is every cheap POS that buys cheap junk because you're cheap and think you're only paying for the name. It's just as good as is the cry of the American cheap asshole. There is no such a thing as just as good as.

Ehhhh, it's a $20.00 purchase.

If it holds zero and functions for 6 months, it's paid for itself.

If not, you're out $20.00.

Not the end of the world.

Seeing as you don't, but I do, have both the $20 Chinese POS micro red dot, and the "must be better because it's over 4 times the price" Chinese Primary Arms micro red dot, I find the $20 one to be equal if not even better. The dot is actually better defined, brightness is equal. Longevity remains to be seen, but since the PA took at a shit almost right out of the gate, the $20 one would have had to be DOA to be worse, and it wasn't.

Granted the replacement PA has been working fine, albeit dimmer than I think it should be, especially compared to my much better, but priced the same Bushnell TRS-25 (older good model). If price alone dictated the quality, the Bushnell and PA would be completely equal, which they aren't, and the $20 one would be noticeably worse than both, which is isn't. Unfortunately the new Bushnell's are no better than the PA and $20 unit.

Again, I could, but I'm not going to buy battle tested, military approved red dots that cost more than the rifles themselves to plink in the desert, even if it would impress you and mall ninja's everywhere. I'll definitely spend much more than $20 if needed, and already have, but I don't need $400+ red dots. Now go preach to someone else that may give a shit what you think, because I don't.

Well, at least some people get it.

And some feel the need to respond like a dick in nearly every post. See example below. If the guy is wrong he is, but that response seems way over the top.

A good question is who doesn't have at least 10 mags for every semiautomatic firearm they own.

I have a collection of handguns that don't have 10 mags each.

For the important stuff in case of emergency, but not everything.
