Are you wanting to make it a true AIMS-74 again? I am pretty sure the AKM FSB will work on this frontend, ROMY 5.45 have slightly smaller barrel profile than Russian or Bulgarian Guns. Then thread 1/2x28.

Just a thought.

An AKM FSB will not fit a SAR 2. The journal on the SAR barrel is too small in diameter.

What I think I'm going to do is buy a jmac adapter. I'll remove the fsb, cut off the ground down portion, press the fsb back on, and then press the adapter on. Then I should be able to thread the brake on. I'm also going to try and fix those holes

No need to remove he FSB first. I would Dremel cut the adaptor off first after inspecting it etc. I do not think it is part of the FSB.

I was always told the Romy 5.45 guns had a AKM barrel profile? That's why you couldn't swap a Russian or Bulgarian 24mm FSB.

WASR 2 has a AKM diameter at the FSB.
A SAR 2 as the OP has., is smaller journal size than AKM/74.
Bulgarian & Russian AK74 are AKM journal size..
Dunno what you were "told" but ., This^^

That must be why a lot of guys just threaded them (SAR2) 1/2x28, the barrel has to be .551 OD if I remember correctly.

You have the firearm in your possession. You need to inspecr the FSB at the muzzle and at the sight vertical area. Is it one piece or not. Did someonne take $250 in parts and grind down the bayonet lug, fubar the threads, drill holes in the muzzle device etc. Evidence indicates it is an adaptor.
You need to determine what is up with the parts.
Do you have a hydraulic press etc.?
Have you contacted the seller to ask what is up with the FSB?

I haven't contacted the seller because he didn't seem to know anything about the muzzle or fsb. He must have just bought it that way. I've been looking to see if it is just an adapter or if it's connected and I honestly cannot tell. If it's an adapter then it's butted up against the sight so tightly that you can't tell if there's any separation between the two. It looks like it's one piece

I don't have a press but Po3saucez is going to help me when I have my new adapter

Well then press it off if that is what you believe.., it is a single unit. Good Luck. Hopefully it will work out for you.

I did the same thing to mine,

Went straight to plum! Looks great, and familiar!

Did you get a little scope with it? Mine came with one and its nutz on! Angled cocking handle on mine too!

No mine didn't come with a scope. Or the upturned charging handle. Yours is different than mine I think. Nice looking rifle you got there

These "replacement" 74 muzzle devices are 2 piece,

Just starting at the basics, not trying to insult anyone's intelligence(not the rifle GENIUS myself either). The piece that flew off threads onto a piece which threats onto the barrel. Both pieces are held in placed by the spring loaded detente pin coming forward out of the fsb.

Get the part that is STILL attached to the barrel off and see what you have to work with...

I had to thread my Romak 2 barrel 1/2x28 to attach a 74 style device.
