Definitely not 16", when armorer profiled the barrel, the turned down the journal for the bayonet lug much so it not being there makes it look longer than normal. I am pretty sure he cut it at 13.75" but I will verify tomorrow.

Looks like the got it right and sent the correct kit to Jeff at Hillbilly this time. Spoke with him yesterday. From What he said, its significantly nicer than the original APEX kit I sent him. Can't wait to see the finished product.

This is what a 13.1" barrel looks like.

Did you SBR it?

I don't think post sample select fire needs to be SBR'd. I believe that's just for semi-auto. Please correct me if I'm wrong.

Sound like it. Spoke with him for about 40 min yesterday on my way back from the Oaks gun Show. He is a consummate gentleman and a pleasure to deal with it. From what I have seen of his work, it speaks for itself. No wonder he is busy.

Just measured the barrel and he cut the length down to 14" even. The next units will have the correct 13.1"

Damn... I wish I could be slapping together posties like, "What barrel length? Dunno..."

I'm still interested to see a SAR pinned to 16" and an AR pinned to 16" if anybody has a pic.

This is what my R5 will look like soon, once Jeff is done with it.

Though, that barrel looks a tiny bit long.

^ What he sent of mine when confirming the barrel length/hider.

OK, cool... that's what I'm doing.

I may pick up another SAR kit...

ETA: Now that's got me wondering if he moved the lug in front of the gas block if the ring on a bayonet would engage the flash suppressor.

Just got mine, ARM, Now i need to figure out what to do for a barrel.

So the only difference between an ar and sar is gas piston, tube and gas block? I think i might convert my ar to sar so i have something different. Anyone want to trade parts?

Most of the whole front end is different.

One of the SAR kits I picked up when I guess they were nicer.

some of the ARM kits do come with the correct handguard retainer after all...

regarding the bipod pin, I wouldn't expect it to be in the kit, but it might be. the ones I have came with the bipods

No, it wouldn't be in there because there is no bipod either. I'm going to make my own on my lathe. Pretty easy to make really.

If you can find a bipod assembly still in the factory wrap, it includes the pin and retainer.

I found one on GB a couple weeks ago. A few years ago they were everywhere for 10 or $15. A little higher now.

I got one recently in the factory wrap, no pin or retainer. No holes in the plastic either.

Id heard a regular AKM bolt will work but I dont know yet. If I get to the point that all I need is a custom bolt, I'll have a custom one machine'd for me.

Also, man I wish we could get some MAR kits and Galil Snipers. That would be incredible.

That last SAR kit looks outstanding, so much so that it convinced me to order one also along with 4 more magazines which happen to be very reasonably priced too. I should have it in hand by week's end with any luck.

Numrich is near Albany NY. You'll see it in a day once it ships. I find its the normal 24-48 hour time frame to shipment.

Im probably going to grab another SAR and ARM kit in May

Its safe to say I havent seen a legit Blackthorne kit and many were very pist when they received them. Seemed like a hoard of cobbled AKM parts with a few Galil parts here and there......Goodluck

I think the prices right now are really good. Some people think its gonna get lower but I highly doubt it. Any part not currently in production will go up eventually. Things to look for are original IMI barrels or decent used IMI barrel plus parts in General.

It was but 2 or so years ago a so so kit was fetching $500 plus minus barrel, receiver, receiver pieces and some small parts and I would have jumped on it.

Luckily I didnt find a hole lot of those kit but I did buy barrels up nearly everywhere I could find them and receivers at $50 to $75 a piece. My FFL was tired of seeing me
