Default Want to be Hickock45 in your back yard? Don't have the land? No problem...

This has to be the coolest thing I've seen. I wonder, would this be illeagal in the back yard of suburbia?

Everything is illegal in the backyards of suburbia. Hickock45 certainly has the dream set up though, huh? Love to step out into my back yard and open up on the gong and steel plates without the SWAT team and helicopters stopping by.

I believe the law reads "discharge of a firearm", so yeah - illegal.

I can shoot BB guns and airguns in my backyard, and bow and arrow but that's it. Anything like that is a no no.

I am up to 15 steel targets and a couple pots and pans over a 200 yard distance so I am gaining on Hickock. I love living in the country

I’ve got a pistol & 100 yard rifle range in my back yard. And yes it’s as amazing as it sounds.

Head on out to the farm & I can shoot 0-400 yards, bench, prone, on the move, from a moving vehicle, any way I want.

You city gals enjoy your BB & blow guns.

Thank God I’m a country boy.

Been using them for years. Wife loves it when I use the fireplace in the living room for a backstop. The back and sides are angled such that it makes a good wax bullet trap.

It was great for teaching the kids(and entertaining them on long winter evenings) and I had them going on regular pistols early, from the time they were five or six, with wax bullets before graduating to real ammunition.

You may get better results, if the primers back out on you, when drilling out the flash holes as he mentions, but I have found it unnecessary, and desirable in that I don't have to worry about them getting mixed up into a batch of regular reloads.

I use blocks of wax that I had initially bought for feather removal while cleaning birds(specifically ducks) and just press the primed cases, like a cookie cutter, into a tray with a layer of wax poured in. Viola, instant wax bullet round. You can do the same thing with pre "cookiecut" wax bullets and your favorite cap 'n ball blackpowder revolver, using just the caps.

X-ring makes a rubber variation too(but they tend to bounce out of the fireplace::

https://www.midwayusa.com/product/10...eter-box-of-50

Speer even makes a plastic practice bullet/case system for indoors:

Lead free primers are advisable for indoor use and are readily available:

https://www.grafs.com/catalog/product/productId/92

I too have a range in the back yard with pistol targets I can engage from the back door, and a 250 yard or so rifle range set up, but this is so fun and easy to do in the cold winter months.

I could shoot outback here but thereís a rule in my township about discharging guns after some full auto fun a guy had many years ago pissed off the township. Neighbor is a officer and Iíve only seen him shoot outback .22 maybe 2 times in 15yrs. I do hunt outback but that doesnít apply to the rule they made, plus Iím not interested in letting neighbors know what stuff I got.

I really need to get some updated pictures, dead gold grass isn't very pretty and the tree is now well used....
5 berms at 50,75,100 128 whoops and 150 yards, 6-6 inch plates 3-11 inch plates, a 6 plate dueling tree plus my chicken wire target racks with clips rather than staples.. Thank GOD I'ma a country boy, and Red lobster isn't what it used to be.. The wife can say dinner in 30 minutes I can grab a pistol 4 mags and put down 60 rounds and be back in time to wash up.. I do need more steel though.. There's a LOT of shooting done in this area and it ain't no hoodrats..

Friend of mine in Massachusetts (Yes, Massachusetts) has the back 20 against state land. Come over the hill and there are lime green and white spray-painted railroad tie plates hanging from trees and makeshift saw horses. Years ago I hit one of his plates with my 1939 Tula Mosin-Nagant at about 3/4 a football field. Amazing feat as it grouped about 18" at 50 yards. Lucky shot for that old rusty bore. Nothing like the sound of ringing steel.

When my mother was growing up during the depression, her family had an impromptu range for .22s in the basement where they, friends and neighbors would shoot. This was in a suburban area of a large city.

From what I gather such was not uncommon back then (inter war/depression era).

Shoot, I did that in the 70s in the city. Newspapers or old phone books stacked and tied with cord.

Iíve been tempted to try wax loads in some .38spl or .45lc for some indoor target practice in the shop during winter.

Iíve used the Speer plastic rounds before, they work well, good for knocking over cans & bottles but easy to lose outside.

Where you been, country boy?...........The "city" is full of people peeing in their yard, the stairwell and their living room rug. We have "gunfire" sensors on many streets so the police have a general idea where someone is unloading their 9mm to kill someone or randomly target shooting the neighbor's dog or car.

Same era where public high schools, even ones in cities, had shooting teams/clubs.

Sometimes I think I was born in the wrong era.

When I was in school at Cal Poly, a group of us lived for a short time in a dilapidated former Mansion that had a Bomb Shelter on its grounds.

This shelter was basically a 50' long cement cave with steel doors at one end. We stacked some RR Ties at the far end and used that as our range for our .357 revolver.

We stopped using it after this one time when one of the guys missed the RR ties and sent a ricochet bouncing all around us.

Do any of you guys belong to a club with multiple "Action Pistol" areas divided by parallel berms? As long as we don't use rifle chamberings on the steel targets, they don't care that an SKS, AK, AR etc is used.

The max. distance at our private club is about 25 yards, but it's almost like your own range, and blast any targets you want if any ugly residue is picked up.

Move plastic barrels to create 'cover' etc. Nobody else is there, no coordination needed to go downrange etc.
With no covered benches in the A.P. area, there are No old farts fixated on their scope, oblivious to the entire world around them.
