Default 7.62x54R Bulgarian spam can - $214 shipped

I bought one - only two left as I write this:

https://www.unammo.com/AmmoSearch.aspx?Cal=7.62x54R

Cool tracer ammo there, too!

If you all are really in the market for this stuff I recommend posting a WTB ad in the marketplace. I just sold case of 880 rds with opener for $310 in a FTF deal after sitting on it for weeks with several postings and no bites.

There is a metric crap ton of this stuff in people's basements so while it might not be available from retailers you should be able to find deals from people like me who overbought it. Really once you hit about 50 cents a round you might as well just buy commercial and not have to mess with the corrosive primers.

Hard to believe 5ish years ago this could be had for under $100. Supply and demand I guess. I remember when you could get a case of 880 for $59, but I am getting old

I bought a mosin m44 from Dan's back in 2004.

He asked me if I wanted any ammo and I said how much?

he said 39 bucks a tin.

"well I'd better take 4 cases then Dan, thanks!"

USAC sales had a shitload of Bulgarian Lacquered 7.62x54r, for $189 I think per 880 round crate, wish I would have loaded up on that, No idea what years bulgaria lacquered vs copper washing the cases.

That and the 54R on stripper clips intended for the mosin is my favorite, it's loaded a bit hotter then the usual spam can stuff, even after all these years it's been flawless reliability wise.

People never thought it would dry up, then poof gone.

When I bought my first M44 they were $37 per spam can. I should have bought more.

At $214 shipped I would just buy commercial ammo and not deal with the cleanup. With a chrome lined ak its no big deal. Clean up today, tomorrow, next week and no big deal. With the mosin the auicker the better. Corrosive ammo makes since to me when its drastically cheaper. Near the same price, no way.

Yeah, I kind of agree. Also it is not like the Bulgarian or Russian ammo is "good stuff" compared to new production. It is machine gun ammo/range fodder. It's only qualities are the sealed spam cans and the fact it WAS cheap.

Well, costs were lower and wages were too. It is pretty relative.

In 1985 I bought an HK 93 out of the trunk of a guys car in Santa Cruz, Ca. for $375.00, very lightly used. Those are over 2 grand now. I sold it for $475.00 to buy a new UZI B model for $550.00. I wish I could buy them all back for what I sold them for. Who Knew! I sure as hell didn't.

For me, the only advantage of 7.62x54r over other cartridges was price. Once prices on surplus got silly high, I got out of that round completely. Luckily, I wasn't heavily invested it or particularly attached to it.

I'm pretty sure I got in on the same deal as you from SG , the shipping was pretty low like $14.99/crate if I remember right..

I bought my M44 from Dan as well, he had some really nice rifles for $75 at the time I bought mine, I should have gotten a couple more. I'm setting on a few tins of Bulgarian Brass an steel case as well as some Russian all 140'ish grain. I think I paid $80 for the last tin and have paid as low as $30 for a 300 rd. tin.

These days I cast for an reload all my 54r ammo.

Yup.. I figured out the end was near so I placed ads on the local gun-trader sites for 54r ammo. Picked up a HUGE lot of loose (1K+) for $50 from a guy who had it laying around. I also grabbed a few crates from Sguide when they had em for cheap with free ship. Have a stack of em unopened in the corner of my dining room still..

Purchased a few Mosin when they were $70 a piece. Had a blast firing the 54R round and bought a crate every week for a while when it was $140. Came in hand when the 54R VEPR became available again. Talk about having fun, 10 rd mag dumps bring a smile every time. Hopefully CSspecs will finish the 15 round mag one day soon.

If i fired my reasonable supply of x54 through my mosin, my shoulder would never work right again!!

Luckily I listened and picked up what I could pre $100+ a can!!

Wish I'd have stocked up on cheap x54 when it was available. Hungry Nagants sitting in the safe that I can no longer afford to feed.
