Default Krinkov top cover hinge pin question.

Whats the best way to peen the ends of a krinkov cover hinge pin? Will using a set of stainless bearings flare the ends of the pin? I've replaced my top cover and I've tried to compress the pin inside two stainless bearings in a vice; but I can't seem to get the ends to flare out flat.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Could be a good way to break a vise.
Unless you've got an older or very expensive vise it might make a sound like a .22 lr
(Most new/less expensive ones are made of cast metal)

Have a press? The bearings might work there

Sorry I don't specifically know a great answer, but pushing a vise to the limit isn't it.

Its a pretty heavy duty vise but its taking a lot of force so far and the ends aren't budging. If all else fails I guess a hammer/punch would work but I'd prefer a cleaner look.

Have you set a trigger guard magazine catch Pin with this same vice before?

I start it with hammer and punch, but the punch I use has hollow end so it holds bearing in place.
after its flared a little I used a rivet tool to flatten it some.

I'm in the same boat, how the hell do I even secure this Hinge pin?

Kvar block and kvar Hinge pin it's freely goes into the hole.

What tools do I need to pin this thing?

Two 1/4 inch ball bearing on each side of the pin, put them in a vice and slowly squeeze together till it peens.

Secure one side of the pin against a solid metal surface. Use a 1/4 pin punch to peen the pin. Reverse and do the other side if necessary. It may peen without flipping it over though.

Ballpeen hammer is hard to control the hits. A pin punch will flatten it uniformly and easily.

This style or flat on the end?

I've tried the ball bearings on the ends again this weekend by superglueing them in place as I lack the 3rd hand in this process but it seems like a quite a bit of pressure so far with the vise with no results.

Flat face pin punch is fine for underfolder bayonet pivots on AK or SKS, trigger guard pivot or the krink pivot.

Not exactly sure how you peen one end at a time? the pivot pin sticks out each end so far, a hell of a lot of material to pen??

Look at my picture above? Also it freely moves in and out of the hole so if I push one end against a flat piece of metal it will push to the other side and I'll have a 1/2 inch of pin sticking out?

This is extremely confusing, unless Kvars pivot pins are fucking way out of normal spec.

It takes very little peening to stop a pin from walking out. With that much excess material nit will never be peened flush to the sides of the pivot area.
Of course you can cut it down in width etc.
