Default Surplus 7.62 nato ammo.

Hi All
So I am thinking of picking up a couple of cases of the recent surplus ammo. Question is South Korean M80 surplus stuff or the Malaysian L2A2? Will be shooting it out of a couple of different guns. Fal, M1A, PA10, M1 ect.

Big difference I see is berdan -vs- boxer and where I can get the best cost per round shipped.

Thanks
Old Sarge

I've bought both. Both appear to be equal accuracy wise. If you intend to reload what you fire then the choice is obvious to buy the South Korean stuff that is boxer primed.

back in the day... accuracy wise was German DAG or MEN along with Austrian Hertenberger, most was Berdan primed.

never shot any of the South Korean but the Malaysian that was brought in before was ok stuff but nothing to write home about.
there was also some Aussie .308 surplus brought in years ago that was decent ammo, some was boxer depending on the year.

I have put about 300 rounds of the malaysian down 2 palmetto ar10s here lately with not one issue. Ammo looks new, i just buy the sealed 50 cal cans both have been 1984 dated. Best price shipped is sportsmans guide old sarge. even better if you sign up or are a buyer club member. You can cancel it before 30 days but if you buy alot its worth it.

Still have that German Dag stash from a long ago J&G sale. The copper-nickel alloy jacket really makes them one of a kind.

I would go with the South Korean for reloading.

South Korean, the few extra cents per round is more than worth it for the reloadable cases. And it'd pretty good stuff too.

South Korea is way more modern and capable and technological than Malaysia is by far so S. Korea would be my vote .

If Malaysia can make those Huge LED TV sets...a decent metallic cartridge should be within their technological grasp.

We have mouth breathers in their mom's basements that reload their own ammo. I'm sure Malaysia can do it just fine.

Malaysia got all of their equipment/technology from the Brits and Aussies so the ammo should be on par. Just sayin'

The Malaysian ammo shoots as good as any other surplus I have put through my FALs.. DAG and MEN included.

IF youíre a Sportsmanís Guide member they have a 10% off + free shipping using code SK1479. I used it earlier to get Malaysian surplus.

5 cans (2700 rounds in 50 cal cans) was $990 shipped to my door for $.366/round

Tried to add some ammo to my cart, only to be told my coupon code was for "members only". Apparently my membership ran out this week. Oh well. Since they added sales tax, their deals for me aren't near as good, but I'd still like to occasionally add some of the cheap ammo. Not sure if I'll re-up or not.

Does Sportsmans Guide still do a free gift card when you sign up or renew your account? When I had my membership, I want to say they give you a $20-$25 gift card.

Tried that - it told me I was a "previous member", so it wouldn't let me use the 30 day trial. Weird. But now it's showing my membership, will let me use a code, and says I'm good until January (which IIRC is correct)? Good grief.

Same thing to me. I had not used them in a couple of year's but the price of the L2A2 brought me back. Told me I was a member already (I spent alot on ammo in the past) and not eligible. I decided to sign up anyway then it told me I would not be charged until thirty days later for my membership.

As for the ammo, I like the L2A2; I shoot most of it out of FALs and G3s, and hate wasting time trying to chase brass. Let them launch it into the next zip code, and carry on.

Sportsmans Guide has free shipping + $15 gift card on orders of $125 or larger. Code is SH2207. That puts the ammo at $208.99 delivered + $15 gift card. So $193.99 for 540 rounds.

Sam's description of the Korean ball mentions some cartridges and cartons tarnished. He usually is very conservative in his advertising. Has anyone noticed any on theirs?

Surplus (Malaysian or South Korean) is $0.37-0.40/round. For 1,000 rounds, you are looking at a $80 difference at most. Probably closer to $50-60 for the 1,000 rounds. At current surplus pricing, I'd rather go surplus. Plus it comes sealed for long term storage.

No luck with the Maly out of an Ar-10. But it is very clean looking. Shame I can only shoot it from a bolt gun.

Tried silencer, no silencer, and tried about every setting on my gas block. FTE every round. Load up Hirtenberger surplus, PMC, Federal, and another German surplus and it ran fine. Just didn't like this stuff for some reason.

I shoot it through 2 palmetto ar10s hundreds of rounds and it works just fine. sounds like your gun is the issue not the ammo.

Maybe time to look at the extractor or spring?

Could be the gun but I'm not messing with anything on it. It shoots every other surplus ammo just fine. Not going to make any changes just to shoot one specific type.

What make and model of AR10 did you have ejection failures with? I have an M&P 10 and don't want to purchase any Malay if it doesn't like it.

In regards to Wolf .308... not if you have any FALs to feed. Classy ladies don't digest steel very well.

Now my Vepr .308 gets nothing but steel case and likes it. Russian ammo for Russian guns and all that.

Regards,

Buster

Aero Precision everything besides Ballistic advantage barrel.

I'm sure you could get it running fine if you tinker with buffers or springs. I just don't feel like. Just going to shoot what works.
