Default Top Loading Drums

Is there a trick to loading Romanian top loading drums? I recently purchased one and can't get it to load. The lever doesn't seem to move the follower at all. Not sure if it's a bad drum or something I'm doing. Never had issues with rear loaders.

Thanks,
CougKev

I've watched YouTube. My lever moves up but nothing happens. No movement of follower. Inspected internals and nothing is jammed or caked with cosmoline.

Every video I've watched, the lever going up drops the follower. Not the case with this one????? Can't even push a second round in.

Are you sure you're pushing the lever up all the way?

Sometimes you can push it up and it feels like it's there but push a little harder and the follower drops. Could be very very stiff and tight if it's a NOS drum?

Does an AK cleaning kit notch fit the lever? Might be able to get better grip to move the lever that last little bit.

Disassemble, then reassemble, make sure the follower is oriented properly and the arrow is in the proper position.

This vid helped me in the beginning.

Thanks for all the input and the generous $10 offer!

There was some rust and cosmoline lodged in the neck of the drum (the drum body was clean). I had to somewhat force the follower down with drum open. Once it broke loose, the lever would move the follower as it should.

Thanks again,
CougKev

Good catch. Took mine apart as soon as I got it. Still needed detail cleaning. Fun as hell to shoot one. I would get another , for sure. Like it much better than the backloaders, mine feels like an actual piece of Communist Military hardware, good finish too.
