I do think I'll end up getting into 5.45 sometime, but this thread has made me realize that I do have other priorities currently. Too many rifles, not enough money...

Cheers friends
Was it all the talk of ass play that scared you away?

As stated back on page one, most shooters who get into 5.45 get into it very deeply. When I got into it, i forgot I had anything else. All my 5.56 and 7.62 guns began collecting dust. One by one they were all replaced with 5.45 rifles.

I can't speak to the collectors, I've never been a collector.

Case 842 of you talking out your ass and making a fool of yourself. Please keep going.
Sorry, but ammunition availability alone makes 7.62 more practical to shoot, it is also more versatile.

5.45 is a sweet shooting round, but ammunition is not available the way 7.62 is. Also the number of rifles available is minuscule compared to the 7.62. A niche round at this point, and hopefully it is able to keep that niche after the 28th.

As far as "getting into it deeply". I bought one 5.45 74 some years ago. Liked it, and I still have that 5.45 rifle, just to have one, but I have a number of 7.62x39 rifles.

Gotta wonder about someone so attached to a cartridge that they cannot abide any one else's opinion without name calling.

No name calling here. You had better re-read my post.

Everyone is entitled to an opinion. It's when people preach their opinion as if it is fact, that I take issue.

Sigh..

Who's preaching?

I simply stated my opinion that 5.45 rifles are more suited to collecting than shooting at this point.

Your reply, fits your description of "preaching" better.

Naw. I'm used to it. I did some time...
In the military.

I've grown to the point that all of my rifles are shooters. Even the cool collectable ones. So I don't want to impulse buy something that may throw that off due to a lack of ammo; if not from a potential ammo shortage or price hike, then maybe even from just having to stock a completely new caliber...

5.45 guns are horrible!!! More for me!!!

I love them. Every time I see a deal on mags/ammo/guns I can't resist.

Great recoil, devastating cartridge, but the jags are pricey now.

OP listen to this guy and ignore the obvious troll in this thread. Guy had a grudge against reality.

I still shoot a lot of 5.45. If you can buy it right you can get it for about 22-23 cents a round. I know it's not as cheap as it used to be, but if you are considering it I say jump on it! I'd more than anything like to see more people offering them. I'm really wanting to see Arsenal 104's again!
