As for an entry level carrier, you can't go wrong with the Banshee. With the demise of the LWPC by VelSys, it has pretty much taken over the niche of low-cost, high quality. Still hoping VelSys brings out a new version of the LWPC.
Thanks for the reply and recommendations!

How does the condor carrier compare to the Banshee? Disregard I found a first gen Banshee for $150 on close out at AR500.

Also, would you recommend any ceramic plates over steel? I am most concerned with protection, although resistance to heat is a factor as it may live in my car during the summer. Weight and durability are secondary.

Reading up a bit more I do think I should go with steel for the durability factor.

What would be a better choice, Patriot plate 2 or the Chase ar1000? They are comparable in cost and specs and you have recommended both.

And when it comes down to it, does the extra 1"x2" on the SAPI plate justify double the cost? I am about 6" 200lbs, so I have my share of torso to cover, but I am not convinced I need it when this is not a daily use setup.

Adam, since the Patriot 2 are no longer available, my recommendation at this time is the Chase Tactical.

Will have a better idea after I get hands-on with them, which is hopefully soon.

Any thoughts on the RMA Armament? From what I can gather watching interviews they seem to claim having a secret sauce?

I do like the idea of a ceramic plate that can take multiple hits. There are some impressive Youtube videos of their plates too.

Possible, but not likely. Again, body armor technology is evolutionary/incremental, rather than revolutionary. All ceramic level III plates can take multiple hits, by definition. 6 rounds of M80 ball within a 6 inch circle to pass the certification.

Ceramic is great, as long as you have the funds/resources to get them checked, and if necessary, replaced every few years. The theme I keep going back to is: there is no one right answer for everybody.

I really prefer M193 and M855 more than others. And what is the update for the best ones?

Not sure what you are asking. Perhaps rephrase?

It's great as a basic plate carrier, but there are things I'd like to change such as the shoulder straps being a bit thick and in the way when shouldering a rifle. Overall, cannot complain. It's quality made.

Keep an eye on the site. I have a plate carrier in the works.

I have my medium and heavy carriers covered, now building up a lightweight minimal JPC carrier with Flyye JPC with the light weight cut spall Scorpion. I have CATI for my other setups. I wanted the Cryye but it's pricey and found this to be the next best thing.

I'm liking this new CRYE JPC clone. Seems pretty well made 1000D with heavy stitching. So much more manageable and I can shoulder my rifle without bulky shoulder straps getting in the way. I'm feeling like my others might be a waste of money now . This is about all I want on it, may add speed mag pouch and that's it. Rest of the gear will be on drop legs.

Crye will probably sue the hell out of them for infringement, unless it is made in CHICOMistan.

I doubt it, it's been out for 4 years or longer. One of the main differences is that the Crye is 500D and this one is 1000D.

From an IP perspective, that makes zero difference.

The cummerbund and shoulder strap designs are almost identical, and Crye is very litigious when it comes to their patents. My guess is that this is made in China (which makes it nearly impossible to sue, since the Chicoms are notorious for patent infringement).

Okay cool. While I can't stand the Chicom's constant intellectual property theft, I own it now and will make good use out of it. After searching high and low for an XL under 275.00, this what I settled on and it's a thicker denier which works for me. I would way rather give my money to Cryye Precision for sure.

The funny part is they paid for the real multicam.

Oh,that wasn't directed at you. I'm glad you were able to get a PC that met your needs. Just surprised that it's been out there for four years.

Cheers.
