Default AK74 problem

Have a AK that pulls the head off the case leaving the case stuck in the barrel. Had a smith remove the case and after 4 shots did it again. Any suggestions.

Whats the ammo brand? I had a chinese ak that hated brass and did the same thing. I talked a local smith about it and he checked headspace which was good. He did say to just use steel case.

Suspect tight chamber on an American non chome barrel, but I'll wait for the OP to chime in.

Sounds like one of the craptastic Waffen Werks AK74s.

US or Bulgarian barrel?

+1 Would not be surprised if was a US barrel with a crummy finished ream on the chamber.

Waffen werkz marked receiver rifles were notorious for chamber and receiver issues.

How does it handle 7n6, or even commercial 60gr?

That's the only used fired 3 and pulled head off and took it to smith to get case removed and on third shot did it again. He charged $90.00 to remove the case so cant do that every third shot. Was bought from a individual and of course he never had a problem.

My ww ak74 had the same problem on both Wolf and silver bears. The out of spec barrel caused stuck casing while getting warm. Don't waste any more ammo.
I ended up spending the money on a new AoA nitrided barrel replacement and have the gunsmith inspected the receiver while in the shop. Now it functions reliablely and accurate.

the wolf soft points in 5.45x39 are a known problem in 74 rifles. try with some steel case fmj - 60 gr only so see what happens. Since a WW, they are know to have issues and sometimes require rebuild by an AK gunsmith to resolve issues.

Take a close look at the chamber is it rough ?
Take a close look at the cases do they have any weird spots?

Try different ammo also .

Does the rifle load and unload unfired rounds OK or do those stick also . If they do it can be a few things but Id be looking at the neck clearance if loaded ammo sticks .

first thing id look at is chamber finish and make sure it clean as well .

Very likely what RMiller said could be a tight chamber .

The Smith didn’t investigate the chamber a bit after removal?
