I think it's too early to know anything yet. Even once things are announced if they follow the same pattern as the last few we will have to see what that means for ammo.

FWIW, the new round of sanctions was announced to be focused on anyone supplying chemical and other weapons to Syria. As usual, we wait to see what devils may be in the details.

Basically it says Trump says no more sanctions. At least not right now.

Was gonna get some later this month, but went ahead and got a case of Wolf Milspec to try out in my move away from GT. Also got a little each of Golden Bear, Silver Bear, PPU, and Hornady for some upcoming accuracy tests.

ETA: $159.75 shipped, about 6.39 a box for .308, hard to beat that, .32 per round.

Will the World Cup 2018 create a Russian Ammo Shortage?

http://www.thefirearmblog.com/blog/2...ammo-shortage/

TulAmmo USA has advised that due to Russia hosting the World Cup this summer, the port of St. Petersburg will be closed to all hazardous class material and TulAmmo will not receive any shipments from Russia over the roughly two months that the port will be closed.

Good move captain.

So no matter what the future holds in store you will have your case of ammo.

I see the future of AK-47/74 ammo as getting more and more precarious as it will become more and more a "political weapon."

Now Hornady is making a decent 5.45 round now using the AMAX bullet but they are importing the damn cases from Mother Russia.

So at some point Hornady may step up and start machining 5.45 brass cases if they see that they are the "only game in town" down the road.

If they do that eventually the 5.45 will OF COURSE cost much more but at least it would be quality ammo.

BUT...if that day comes Hornady will be able to sell every 5.45 round they make so they certainly won't lose money. Steve Hornady IS NOT a dumbass. He will watch the situation unfold.

Had an AR-15 lover/AK hater teasing me last week with...."You guys won't be able to get ammo in a year or two."

So I played the Hornady 5.45 card on him and that shut him up pretty fast. He didn't even know that Hornady has been making 5.45 rounds with the AMAX bullet for awhile know.

And I do know of one Bulgarian AK-74 owner who uses the Hornady ammo right now in his rifle for home defense. He claims that the muzzle flash in low light from the Hornady 5.45 round is much lower than the Russian 5.45 too.

Dated July 31, 2018 from Democratic Senator Ron Wyden of Oregon, a very interesting and informative letter he sent to the Office of Foreign Asset Controls (OFAC) on Tula, Kalashnikov Concern, and Kalashnikov USA. I hope this link works.

https://www.finance.senate.gov/imo/media/doc/OFAC Russia Sanctions 180731.pdf

https://www.finance.senate.gov/imo/m...s%20180731.pdf

Maybe related to the SGAMMO email thread on Russian ammo sanctions

That is interesting... If i remember correctly Tula was possibly in the sights of the last round of sanctions due to these same reasons. Perhaps it will come to fruition now.

^unless you store your ammo in buckets of water itís not really needed. I used to be very paranoid about how I stored my ammo, but Iíve seen my friend store wolf poly/Barnual ammo in his non climate controlled garage in St. Louis for 10 years now and he never has any issues. If youíre storing it for 20+ years it may make a difference. But otherwise I think youíre fine.

I wouldnt stress it too much. I bought a mak 90 a year ago with 1100 rounds of some russian hollowpoints that where kept in the milk carton wrappers and in the wooden crate they came in in 1994. Some of the rounds are a wee bit rusty but i have shot at least 600 out of it with no problems. If theey are n cans they should all be gtg.

Jeez, why all the worries about unsealed ammo going bad? There is 100 year old ammo unsealed all over the place and there has not to my knowledge been a rash of misfires resulting from date of manufacturing

A friend of mine had some old 7.62X39 from the 90's and it was in a cardboard box in a basement for a while before being 'stored' in the same box in a garage for years. Long story short, he gave it to me and every single round went bang.

It gives gun owners something to worry about. If you haven't noticed, we like to worry about everything. It's nice to have lacquer/sealed but as long as you don't store it loose in a swamp most everything will probably outlast you.

That said, I have seen surface rust on poly case ammo that sat for awhile. It would probably take decades if not a century for the rust to become bad enough to make the ammo defective, however. But with steel cased I am inclined to be more worried about lacquer than sealant.

The first one that wants to make a dollar,, if there is a demand for
Cheap ammo someone will gear up and fill up. Wouldn't surprise me is Federal got geared up.
For the fear mongers I hope they realize it's a 2 ways street if a ammo storage happens. Ak prices will start to drop. Who wants a rifle that can't afford to shoot. Same reason I don't own a 10mm.or any offer hard to get or high ammo. Can't afford to shoot.

And it makes Tula look like premium ammo, stuff is garbage, just like most U.S made combloc ammo, underloaded and overpriced.

Agree on the Winchester steel being shit but it shows it CAN be done cheap. That's why In a early post I said that maybe Federal could pick up the load. I shoot a ton of there ammo because it goes bang EVERY time ands it's the cheapest locally

Dont care about that failure ridden 9mm. Can get brass for just as cheap often enough if you stock up correctly.

7.62x39 steel case, 20 rnds a box, any american company make it for 4.99 a box give or take some, it wont happen, especially anytime soon. We will have around 40 cents a round american brass.
