Sorry but you are the one basing their position on nitriding not being used by the military, yet as was mentioned it seems the US is indeed looking towards using the process in place of chrome. At which point your position against it falls flat.

The friction coefficient and hardness of chrome plated and nitride treated barrels is pretty much identical. The corrosion resistance of nitrided barrels is very good. A lot of heat/youtube melt down videos will ruin both barrels. If they still somehow work, both barrels carried some kind of damage away for sure. The chrome plating will form microscopic cracks that allow oxygen to the hot steel underneath the plating and cause erosion and corrosion fast. A similar process will take place in nitrided barrels.

There are a lot of people with same thought process you have (no offense intended sir) in militaries and that's why they still insist that chrome plated barrels are superior to nitrided ones, even though they have no clue about barrels, let alone the mechanics of a firearm, not all though. Using firearms doesn't make one automatically an good armorer. Even a regular untreated barrel will last a very long time with a bit of care and avoiding getting it too hot. It doesn't take long to clean a barrel.

Looking where? Basing? Stop this cra., I said in initial post and many times after - it is my personal preference. You are free to buy or build anything you like, even AK with wooden barrel
