What is it about the AK that makes people think that common sense , gunsmithing, metallurgy, and physics don't apply??
What makes it were a person will refuse to spend even $20 to do something right ?? I used to think it was because kits were cheap. Now I think people are just oblivious of what hap l ensure when a rifle comes apart and hot steel and super hearted gas at high pressure goes into your face and scull.

Welding on a bolt lug that needs to hold about 8000 pounds of thrust is about the worst advice I have seen posted here!

The temper is affected, The grain structure is affected , the geometry of the lugs is likely affected.

That gun is unsafe . Stop shooting It before you hurt your self or more importantly someone else.

If you incapable of drilling a hole you sure can't be capable if giving advice.

I'm not a proponent of welding a barrel slot but it's not a big deal to drill the hole if you do.

This is actually the best option and has been done countless times.

Update:
Pulled the barrel and pressed spare one in. Headspaced with the correct bolt this time!! Drilled and reamed and installed barrel pin and pressed on barrel components. Re checked headspace. All good. Thank you all for the advice.

Awesome, another option on the table would be to wrap JB Weld on a round, insert partly into chamber so it sticks out a little further, then file bolt lugs to correct headspace. lol just kidding, I bet you won’t make that mistake again. Check headspace again after firing 200 rounds. Enjoy your Maadi.
