Default Has anyone bought R4/LM4 parts straight from South Africa?

I would love to build a R4/LM4 clone. I'm sure I'm not alone.

You can aquire parts from individuals. Some are on the forums selling items. Items you will not be able to get from SA are the Gas block, Barrel, trigger parts and of course the receiver. Everything else Ive aquired no problem but expect a wait.

Yes, I've also aquired parts from individuals, in South Africa, not directly from any company, but I guess you could, as long as there not the specific parts mentioned by mullicrk.

Yup, the real South African gas block will be the only major hurdle.
Most guys just use the Israeli has block, and few people could tell the difference.

The Gas block can be modded to look very close. I even put the serial of the receiver on them for cooler looks.

Ive been working on a R5 and R6 for about 2 years now off and on. If anyone knows me thats a hell of a long time. Ive modded and made different parts and sections and at times scrapped or re-modded to my liking.

Ive also started a FFV890 project about a year ago (whole other level to search for info and parts).

Basically the reason I mention my builds and time frame is that patience and perseverance in your search for parts will prevail in the end. If not then you gave it a good shot. Most of my parts came from years of collecting and good fortune in searching (also had a brother who imported ) Plus allot of money and time.....I did mention allot of money didnt I?

I can tell you, the parts are not out there waiting to be grabbed like they were 5, 10, 15, 20 years ago.

If you find something then the best time to get it is at that moment. Otherwise I might be there to snatch it for myself

Are you doing a "C" build or the ARM variation?

If I wasn't still living in this shi*hole state I'd already have my FFV890c build done. Finding any of the original parts is a huge hassle but I think you can do it!

I couldn't help it brother.

Very nice, by the way, oldcal, very nice.
How do you like the extra length on that stock?

In SA, the barrel is the gun. A receiver is not. They seem to be only selling the barrel with the gas block now from what I last heard

To be honest the longer stock is not very friendly. As these rifles are heavy compared to other intermediate cartridge variants.. The extra length compunds the front end weight. Even though its only about an inch or so longer. The stock itself is lighter than the Galil's. I'm whipping up a R5 clone next. But Ive been searching for a rear hg retainer with no luck sadly.

Yeah, I thought, for me anyway, that the extra length really compounds the weight too, just like you said, and I had all my South African Galil stocks, cut down to IMI length, much nicer handling, since the weight is further back. I do really like the stronger knuckle contact area, and yeah, it's lighter, and very, very strong.

I like the extra length myself. Keeps me from doing the "Chicken wing" with my long arms.

I got a rear retainer from "Wildcard" on here not long ago for a R5. With the crappy political situation and unrest over in SA I havent heard much from him. Last time we talk was a few weeks back and they had him out dealing with tribal gangs.
