Very interesting. Thanks for posting! I didn't know they existed. Any details or history?

Experimental SVD Bakelite. Heard it was either 20,18 or 15 rounds. I can get 14 to fit, 15 tight. Might have had a hang up though. Going to see if 18 fit. Not much information out there about this. Heard there are only a handful in the World that exist. Supposedly SVD mags more than 10 rounds didn't really work well due to the shape of the 7.62x54R round. I have seen some pictures on dragunov.net of metal 20 round mags. I think there are a few more of those that exist. Had this one shipped here from Russia.

Ya might want to spend a minute and take a look around before you start mashin' that "new thread" button

Stickied threads such as Attention Photobucket users! - AK Files might've kept you from floundering about here . . .

Very nice! I've got one as well but it's black polymer. Also holds 15 rounds. Identical dimensionally to my 15 round metal SVD mag. Any way to tell if yours is actually Bakelite or just painted with a similarly colored polymer material?

My recollection is that the springs in these are identical to the standard 10 round magazine springs. If someone were sufficiently motivated they could probably be made in the USA...

Its bakelite, spring is longer than the 10 round. I'd post more pictures but its giving me a headache trying to figure this out. Wish there was an easier way than having to use another site.

in 2005 I was in Russia and visited a few gun shops and they had many of these but cant sell as they are over 10 rounds so they were deactivated by cutting the feed lips off so a round wouldnt stay in the mag. One dealer said he had a dozen live ones that he would sell me for 50 bucks each but said getting them home would be a problem...probably still in his shop in Vladivostok...

In the photo it appears to be made out of the same AG-4 phenolic resin material that other more common Russian mags are made from. They are much stronger than Bakelite.

Yup - I had a similar deal cooking for a bit - but didnít have/want a way to go pick them up in person. And people called me a liar.

Yes, inquiring SVD owner's want to know.

What did it set you back? $250+ I'm betting. Maybe a hell of a lot more. Not sure how to guess on a rare mag like that.
