Default Czech 91/38 ?

Hey guys,

Need a hand to help I.D. this Mosin. I believe it to be a Czech Mosin 91/38 with a Cossack stamp. Would that be correct? Trying to get a value and a bit of background info on it.

Take a look at 7.62x54r.net (or .com) for some great Mosin Nagant info. I do think you are correct though, very nice rifle.

Create an account and ask on gunboards. All I know is there aren't too many antique 91/38s out there

Very nice carbine!

I was able to collect almost every variant of Mosin carbine but never came across a 91/38 at the right time

Cossack stamped Mosin 91/38s were extremely valuable. There was a certain member on Gunboards I remember paying over $1,000 for one. However Mosin values have taking the biggest hit I've personally ever seen and all of my valuable Mosins are staying put until the market comes back. I have two 1941 Tula 91/30s.

I think Mosins are at an all time high. What makes you say this?

Have you looked at prices lately? Better yet, have you looked at demand (lack of)?

NICE 91/38 OP., gotta love that one as a unusual piece.

Prices on ordinary 91/30 MN's are at $250 +/- vs $100-$125 3-4 years ago.
Now whether certain "collector" Finnish or other early models have declined due to recent imports that may be another matter.

M44, 91/59 and 91/38 short rifles have all increased in price.

4-5 years ago when the PU snipers were coming in the prices dipped to the $500 mark. Not so now that the sale of those has ended and the Ukrainian depot imports are all but stopped.

I have a 1899 91/38 rifle tat is one of my favorites. I shoot it occasionally and marvel at a 119 year old rifle still spitting bullets quite well.

Yes, regularly. I just don't agree. What specifically is making you say this? Are there certain models? Do you have any examples? I mostly collect and watch snipers, but do keep an eye on others. My feeling as been that demand for anything Russian has been quite high - seemed to me that more people wanted Mosin's the same time more people wanted SGLs.

I see Tula M44s sitting at $300 or so. A few years ago a common M44 would bring that. You guys are on crack if you think the Mosin market hasn’t tanked.

Not only would a Tula M44 be a $400-450 carbine a few years ago. You had to FIGHT people for it. If you didn’t say “I’ll take it” within an hour it was gone.

I bought M44's at $79-$110. I have never seen them higher than in today's market over the last 20 years of buying Mosin Nagant rifles. I own a pile or two.

Some of my M44 and other short Mosin Nagant rifles here.

Well it's been refurbished not to mention half of it's barrel cut off. 119 year old rifle...ehhhh that's stretching it. The receiver and maybe barrel are original.

This one is more like what you are thinking. Got one of these? Possibly a WWI bringback...

That is nice Mosin Nagant you have there too. The 91/38 is what it is. I didn't cut it down.
You seem to be wound pretty tight.
