Default Gun show find!

So I was at the local crossroads show and came across this sitting on one of the tables. It was kind of pricey but it spoke to me and I just had to have it. Not super knowledgeable on the Chinese AK’s but from what I know it is somewhat desirable with its features. Can someone tell me some more about this?

Here’s what I know...

There are no markings on the receiver except for the GSAD markings and “S” and “F”. I did find some markings on the barrel next to the front sight “Norinco 7.62x39 China”. Has the spiker and the furniture appears to be original. Gun looks unfired and the firing pin is springed. Came with the original box, three Mags in wrappers, oil bottle, GSAD style sling, and Chinese mag loader. I have included a link to the album of pictures. Can someone tell me more about this rifle? I was really intrigued that it didn’t have any Norinco markings on the receiver but it did has the GSAD importer markings. Someone else looked at it and mentioned it being a “Jing An” rifle. Paid $1700

School me please!

you snagged a very early, desirable Chi-Com for an awesome price.
If it's unfired it is a REALLY good deal.
You pretty much stole it either way.

Nice score.

It does look unfired, no hammer marks at all, same with the firing pin.
Looks like someone dry fired it without the bolt carrier installed though.
I'd sure be proud of it.

Thanks guys, glad I did well. Is there any history of note on these? The markings are definitely different than any Iíve seen.

Beautiful. I’ve not seen many pre ban Chicom AK’s selling for less than $2,500 recently. I’d love to find a deal like that.

I pulled out the firing pins on my collectable AK’s that have never been shot and I don’t plan on shooting. Then I put the firing pin and firing pin retaining pin in the cleaning kit so I don’t loose it. To ensure I can dry fire them without marring the hammer I put a rubber plug in the back opening of the bolt. This is a really simple way to protect it, while allowing me to safely fondle it (frequently heh) or show it off to others.

Nice find!

The GSAD Chicoms usually go for $2,000+ most of the time they have usually been fired and come with out the box and accessories!

For $ 1,700 you did extremely well!

Why - so the next guy can make it a safe queen?

I wouldn't shoot it, but others will disagree. It's only going to go up in value, and "unfired in the box" just increases that. Nice find.

Exactly. I would never own a gun just to keep it in a safe. First thing I would do with this one would be to get at least couple of hundred rounds with me and go to the range. Then again I would never pay $1700 for a chinese rifle. Hell, I paid less than that for my almost unfired Valmet M62S about one year ago.

I don't know jack about it, other than it looks like an beautiful AK. Nice find! Clean your room mister! It looks like the barrel profile is heavier than "standard" AKM. Is that true?

Article says the serial numbers imported are in a certain range. Mine is way below the numbers posted in the article.

Well you can't compare what is available in Finland to what is available in America. Our import bans are the worst in the world and we only got a pittance of Valmet M62 rifles. They mostly sent us .223 rifles because of the popularity of the cartridge here before 7.62x39 became widely available. What you paid for your Valmet in Finland does not compare to its value in America.

Also we get it, you hate Chinese AK's.

But here is the thing, we don't get new Chinese AK's so your disdain of them doesn't apply to what is available in America since our 1989 and 1994 bans. 1980's era Chinese AK's like the OP's GSAD is much nicer than what is currently available so you are making an apples to oranges comparison similar to your statement of paying less for your Valmet.

I bought my Valmet here in USA.

Honestly, that does look like a nice rifle OP. I really should get a hold of one of these chicoms so maybe I could start to understand why you guys pay big money for those. My experience with Norinco AK is from early 90s and it was huge pile of s.it.

Honestly couldn't hurt and if you still dislike it you will easily get your money back selling it.

I've owned examples from at least 5 different countries, and I haven't seen where the Chinese ones from that time period are any bigger piles than the Russians and Bulgarians I've had. And I like the Chinese blued finish better. The Romanians have been the ugliest I've had, and they still ran like raped apes. The Chinese fixed stock spiker is to me one of, if not THE best looking AK ever made.

Is it just me, or is the stock angle on these Chinese ones more pronounced than the European ones?

They are. They're more ak47 pattern instead of AKM, most easily identifiable by the stock rake, as you mention. Ak47 profile barrel width & gas blocks, too.

Just saw a guy buy a used low serial GSAD spiker at Charlotte gun show. $2150 he paid. It was used but extremely nice.

Apologies if this has been posted already. I was about to post at 10:30 this morning, but then my cousin showed up and he just left soo......

GSAD = Golden State Arms Distributers Inc. ,
not GSA (which was the original Golden State Arms). The two companies were not related.

GSAD was founded in 1984 according to public records, and also its former owner.
imported Jing-An mfg rifles (police state arsenal)
Early vender. Not as early as Clayco, but still early.

That's about all my notes say about this particular importer.

And no, I don't plan on shooting it. I have a cheaper AK to shoot. This one is my collector.

I have an identical GSAD spider to yours but mine has been fired! Several years ago my sister and her husband inherited a gun collection. She called and asked if I was interested in an AK. I figured it was a wasr but when she said it had a bayonet and wood grip I got interested and ended up with this Chicom!

Around 2005-06 I was just getting into aks and was offered a mint gsad for $1000. At The time it seemed like an ok but not great deal. I counter offered $850 and the guy accepted but then backed 9ut the next morning. I still regret not just buying it but you live and learn. I would like to get one some day.
