I just ordered another GSG AK-22 and a 3rd SAS-12. Centerfire only has 4 of the GSG "Rebel Editions" (the same one in my photos with a weathered look) left for $229.99. I was told by ATI that they aren't importing or selling them anymore, so I'm assuming that once they dry up, they're gone for a while unless another importer see's a big demand for them (not likely).

I don't know. I don't have Mpi-69 mags to try (modify).
I think someone did though.

Thank you. The only ammo I've put through the one pictured so far is CCI Mini-Mags. I am going to take that one and the new one out soon and try 5-6 different types of ammo to see what cycles and groups the best.

I have some modified for my Romanian 22..They feed except the very last round won't strip..Acts as a bolt hold.

Perhaps I got lucky, but my Romanian AKT-98 runs flawlessly. I'd eventually like to get my hands on a Romanian WASR 22. They are a joy to shoot!

The market and cost and reliability of the AK type 22LR shooters or look-a-like is really pretty weak.
The intro to any firearm is about the safety, aiming, and overcoming any fear or poor habits for young shooters.
Transitioning to the young ones to the 5.45 or a 5.56 AK after that would fill the bill for AK familiarity.
What he said. A S&W AR-22 is very good, but I would get him a accurate bolt action and teach him to shoot well.

I scratched the itch and I bought a WASR 22. I bought it off GunBroker this past Sunday and it was delivered to my FFL on Friday. I replaced the factory furniture with the Dragunov style stock with a Romanian SAR stock set that I recently sourced through the marketplace.

I guess I have the rarest one ever cause "post tune" I have ran close to 700 rds federal bulk (wally world ammo) with ZERO malfunctions. Probably gonna have to clean it one of these days also.

It really is not "that" hard to get them to run right. You just can not start in with a Dremel and be completely ignorant on how to tune guns though.

(disclaimer : gunsmith for 30 odd years now so have some basic knowledge of how guns work)

Have shoot two of the Romanians, that while cool, were not reliable. If patient
both I am sure needed extractor tweaking.
The GSG I had was fun for about 1200 rds. Then due to its "airsoft" construction started to have issues and it went down the gun show road.
Really would like a high quality AK .22 ,but doesn't seem likely .

The Romanian 22's are hit or miss. Not a good reputation. There atlre far better 22 rifles out there. The AK pattern is unique and cool but not a great 22LR rifle for general use in plinking or varmint or small game.

Actually I would guess most of them are miss. Mine took "quite a bit" of modifying to get it to work.

But.

It is now a favorite amount most all shooters that come through and it is dead on reliable when set up correctly. Truthfully a shame they didn't come that way from the factory as they would have had an excellent seller there.
