i read the part about building a monument with these rifles in the original farc peace deal about 6 months ago, not in the recent articles, in the older ones im pretty sure it details that the monuments will literally be built out of the melted weapons, you never know though

^^^If I had a kit like that already, I sure as hell wouldn't waste my money on these ones.

I wiped these down and they are in Great Condition. The grind marks on the Trunnion people were freaking out about is not deep at all.
I compared it to a few other sanitized trunnions; Mak90, Tula, Romanian.
The E.G Trunnions I received have more material left. One could easily re serialize them without having to Add any metal.

I missed out on these back when they were $250. (5yrs ago maybe?) So It was an instant buy for me.

My only issue was that 1 of the kits was missing the bag of pins, some FCG parts and the Top Cover was Bulgarian.
If these are from the Balkans conflict, the Top Cover could have been switched before De-mill.
Normally I wouldn't bother about missing small parts and a incorrect Cover, but these are East German. EG has unique taper on the end of their pins, also I have a thing for E.G AK's .
So I sent Apex an email and they were Great, they made my kit whole & swapped the cover before a week was out.
As always Apex's CS is Top Notch

The parts below the Top Cover are what was missing from 1 kit.

I took the trunnion to the belt sander and cleaned it up a little bit. Could go a little more and you wouldn't seen any of the grind marks.

I'm happy with it, ordered a receiver from Childer's today.

Damn what a shame..

I wonder if those stampings can be raised with acid? If ground off bike numbers can be retrevied so could gun numbers, I would assume.

They would have no depth. Only if you were curious what the original numbers were would it be helpful. Not sure it is worth the bother.

Well, if one could retrieve them, then they could be re-stamped. Might be worth raising the trunnion stamp.

I get that but easier to pick a date that one likes that is in the range of the parts and pic a serial number that is a unique or favorite or birthday. The DDR markings are very rudimentary.
Not like you are really getting it back to original.
These are about as far as kits get from original. The DDR's are nicely finished and blued though.

I know the last 3 #s on mine are 480, because they missed the stamping on the selector and the safety sear. Just for the hell of it, I'm going to mark the trunnion with something that looks original but that's it. It will be a nice shooter that I wont worry about scratching it up a little.

I just posted this on the forum, that explains why it is more of a write up, I mentioned to you guys I was going to be out of town earlier in the week.

I am in Colorado Springs this week, one place I wanted to visit was APEX. I met Richard and Jeff at the SAR last year and I kept in touch with Richard.

Richard is very, very knowledgeable about the industry and their facility, faculty and general operation is first class. One thing I wanted to see and to share was the new East German kits they just received. One thing that was very interesting was HOW FAR they went to conceal the serials of these kits. Anything with the last three digits they left, they got rid of anything with four digits or more, even the wood handguards were scrubbed. That is pretty cool.

These are Balkans conflict weapons, they are scrubbed/sanitized but it is done very very well. I grabbed one of the kits on the top of the bin. I was handed a knife to cut it open and take a look. These kits were demilled very carefully, the particular example could be a 67 kit judging by a few features AZAK pointed out.

The contractor they used to demill these did a great job. They do one at a time and keep all the parts from each kit together. I will be ordering my own kit at the end of the month, I wish I could have left with this one, if I wouldn't have spent $400.00 on ammo the previous day shooting machine guns I could have.

This gun was new before it was cut, look at the lack of wear on the carrier and piston.

Take a look for yourself:

A scrubbed Balkans conflict weapon.
The blueing looks damn good on Techno's pics.
These are looking good as a legit piece of AKM history?

Am I being realistic, or am I just a gun whore?

I built one of these scrubbed apex kits back around 2013ish. I like shooting it, she's solid and everyone trips out over the pebble stock.

Pics are pretty old, the bullet button is loong gone since I live in America now

That's great.

Maybe mention to Richard he should use more qualified people to demil the rest of his stuff, most of the time who ever demill his kits couldn't find their way out of a paper bag.

TECHNO I appreciate you sharing the experience of your visit with us.
Glad you found a way to share all those pictures you took.

Speaking of pictures, I am liking the pictures of that East German build from Bravodigger.

Based on the other kits we received I think these are the last of the "Balkans War" AK's from this particular export firm.
Those other kits are still being handled, just the M72AB1 kit has made it to our GunBroker listings.

Here is a link to the East German kits on the APEX web site:

I look at alot of various forums, and I cant remember where I was looking but I saw not one but two M72AB1 DEACTS on a foreign forum missing the bipods. You are right about that, sucks.

If someone wanted to make their Mitchell Arms imported RPK look correct, maybe they would swap you one? Or maybe someone has the lower half and will sell it because it they need the top half?

Do we have any threads here that show differences in AK47/AKM design by country and/or year ?
(Like the Other forum has)
East German AK's are pretty unique, just about every part has a difference.

The condition wasn't as Good, also it looks like 5yrs ago they were $250.
The $169 I'm thinking of must have been 6-7 years ago.

These EG kits are great, the level of machining is top-notch. While mine wasn't from Apex here's some motivation for anyone on the fence!

It's a 1985 built on a Childers receiver and an FB Radom barrel reprofiled by Forbus.
If it were an earlier kit I would have had it blued but since it's older I just had it cerakoted.

Beautiful build. As much as I wish they had the #s intact I will probably still feel like I missed something when these are gone. I don't have any EG rifles so this will be as close as I'll get

Thanks Blue, you're right blue mine came with a slant break, a nice Bakelite LHG, and pebblestock but I prefer the configuration as it is.

Yeah, the first two numbers on the front trunnion.
If it came with a pebble stock on the right hand side there should be two circular stamps with numbers inside. Month and then Year. For example mine is 10 and 83, it should be close but may be original to your kit or a replacement.

Do these use the "normal" AKM barrels like AK Builder and Green Mountain sells?
