Default Brownells Mossberg trigger gaurd

Picked me up the new Shockwave. Was going to order a new metal trigger gaurd from brownells. They use to be $93. Now they are $167 !! What the hell ? Any one know why ? Only place I can find them.

Also, Aimpro has no plans on making a heat shield for it. Hopefully someone will.

I have both 870's and 500's. I picked the shockwave over the cheaper price and longer magazine tube. Better foregrip as well.

That's way too much money when the factory trigger guard works just fine. I think it's extremely rare if a factory one actually breaks.

It's not the guard that breaks, there are two tabs on the front that snap off.

A good test when buying a used 500 is pulling down on the front of the trigger guard, if the assembly rotates down the tabs snapped off

I suspect demand for the aluminum trigger assembly has really gone up with the introduction of the Shockwave. I think Mossberg should have gone all the way with this thing as a 590A1 rather than just a 590 with the heavy barrel. How much would that have added to the cost? Certainly not as much as it costs for the buyer todo it retroactively!

Kinda what I figured. People must be buying the crap out of them. But, they couldn't sell them for $350 if they did do that. I prefer the metal trigger gaurd just like I prefer a more stout handrail rather than all the lightweight ones coming out.

Now Remington's 870, id rather have the plastic, cause their pot metal police one seems cheaper than the plastic

Emotionally, when I look at the Shockwave, particularly the version with the Marinecote receiver, I really want to get one. They just look so cool. When, I think about it logically however I think a better alternative, if I decide to get a shorter 590A1, is to get the new 50774 with the 18.5" barrel and 6+1 capacity.

I can remember when the aluminum trigger guards were $69.

What's your point?

That Mossberg has raised prices over the years?

Everyone else has too.

Really ? Everyone has almost doubled their prices in the last year. I didn't know that.

No it hasn't. I ordered one last year for my Thunder Ranch 500. It was $93. Either way, I'm not paying $167

You can buy an entire used 500 in a pawn shop here for that much.

I have a 1985 Mossberg 500 that has been thrown around the trunks of cars, beds of trucks, dropped and had 10s of thousands of rounds through it in over 30 years and nothing has broken. How in hell would you break the "plastic" trigger guard? Or the "plastic" safety slide for that matter. $93 or $167, save your money.

They break during re assembly after removing the trigger group. The next time you clean yours take a look at the front lower part of it. There are two tabs that slide into the receiver, they only go in at a downward angle, if you get the angle wrong and force it in, the tabs will break.

I guess the simple solution is to install the trigger guard correctly and not force it. I've been able to do it numerous times.

They can break a tab if you rip them out or reinstall them like a chimp. Own 4 Mossbergs for years. Never broke anything. I've taken the trigger assemblies out hundreds of times to clean them with nitro solvent. No rocket science involved.

I get good deals from LEOs who trade them in, they are definitely not rocket scientists. Four out of ten 500s that I got have had broken tabs. Most have switched to 870s in the past few years.

I think it's price gouging.
Backordered a $92.99 version and got it two weeks later.
The price immediately jumped to $167.
And yes, Brownells seemed to be the only place to order one from.
Went with a Vang Comp System aluminum safety.
My Shockwave is Mil-Spec.

You bought 4 Mossbergs with broken tabs? Didn't notice the trigger assembly hanging from its well? Well, if they can bugger up a trigger guard, how many broken ejectors will the 870s have?

I'll let you know when they trade them in.

Well, lets hope everyone refuse to pay $167 and they come back down.
