Well, septic take care of daily living.
Solar is next on the list. Uncle went all solar a while back. Need to pick his brains.
Share what you find, that's my next one too.

It's weird, I think some communities will put value in it, but not until some commerce is re-established. I think the tech savvy communities trying to get some rudimentary comms, tech, etc would put big value in it if there was a magnetic issue/emp that fried the existing stuff and they had to go from scratch. Just as we had to do up until recently, gold will become king once again for any kind of boards as manufacturing will be at grinding hault. It will all be garage builds for tech stuff. Have gold, find a techy town, live like a king imo.

Come shtf, what are we gonna need gold for ? Silver and aluminum yes but I donít think buying and selling will be a thing.. Silver, steel and aluminum will be need for bullets and metal works. Good, shelter and ammo will be all a man needs.

It all depends on your definition of SHTF.
I suggest studying Argentine and Yugoslavian breakup as 2 possible scenarios.
2000% inflation from Petrodollar collapse is more likely than a full scale CW3, at this point, IMHO.

Jeddak has a good point. The country is looking quite a bit like the precursors of yugo, except replace ethnic with regional cultural differences. It started slow, looks quite a bit how we look. Took years before shots were fired. Than it took years for them to stop. Hell, South Carolina is voting on the drafting on secession papers. All it takes is one domino to fall. One stupid move. One kid to get shot. One politician to lose position. It spins out of control fast after that. Feel free to ask my mom. The shots started, and it didn't take long for mortars to start leveling roadways. Crops were confiscated by whomever was the controlling faction in the area, so the crops failed. All commerce came to a screeching hault, even in stable cities. It will be one of those "oh it's just there, it won't get here" to "we can go to John's tonight when the patrols thin out, he said he found some tomato cans and a few boxes of pasta" within 6 months. I think most areas will be largely on their own. This country of ours is massive. Find a autonomous area, tech savvy area, or a smallish agricultural area. Don't join in "the good fight", there isn't one. A breakup is ugly. Nobody wins. The only thing you can do is look after yourself and neighbors.

Also, keep in mind, any military units will dry up any and all petrol until the vehicles stop running. Whatever is available for purchase will be absurdly expensive and more than likely unavailable in most non commerce/industrial areas. The atlas shrugged movie adaptation has a scene depicting such an ordeal. It would not surprise me if rails became king again. This would also cripple most of the country transport wise, as the rails only go so far to such few places.

I suspect fuel would be subsidized by feds to big business, transport, merchant marine fleet, and agriculture. Other than that, SOL. Hope you learned bio fuel and snagged an old Mercedes W123.

Great perspective Serb.

Zerohedge has an article up from yesterday I think written by a survivor of the Venezuelan crisis.

A lot of interesting tidbits including how the military controls food of course and then sells it to street gangs. Writer also said that no-one she knows wants to use PMs or Bitcoin cryptos etc.

She observes that people who can perform skilled labor and control what they charge are doing much better than those on fixed income many of whom are starving. Also The gov is forcing doctors to falsify death reports to cover up the rash of suicides by hopeless people. Many fathers are just walking away or taking a bullet.

This is socialisms terminal phase.

You should add "food" and "clean water" to your list....

Nailed it.

As for skilled labor, the people that eat in such scenarios are medical professionals, Carpenters/plumbers/handymen, mechanics (not so much cars, but for generators), women (unfortunately, this is the case and has been in every single conflict/collapse), people that can make alcohol (you can actually live pretty comfortable if you can do this), creative cooks and preservative experts, wholesale drug dealers and existing criminals (this life is an easy come up), drug addicts (they've been living this hell for years), the already homeless.

If you don't have a skilled trade or a valuable hobby you are good at, find one and get good at it. Sales/business/accounting/retail/etc aren't going to keep you breathing. Everyone is a gun-slinger when it all goes to hell, and they will be a dime a dozen. You have to be someone that the gun-slingers want to keep alive and protect.

Moral of the story, don't be the gun-slinger, they are a very common resource.
Be the guy that hires them to protect his "shop" or operation.

Seriously though, learn how to make decent tasting alcohol, and isopropyl alcohol for the medical people. Those two things will probably keep your generator running with traded petrol, and a stock of food (and a small group of violent professionals willing to do some nasty stuff if need be) in your place.

We can prep all we want, but once the initial shitshow is over, you need a quality of life to some extent to survive. No amount of stacked ammo, canned goods, etc are going to save your ass when your block is burning down and the fire Dept went out of business permanently a few months back. You're just going to have a smoldering stack of money that could have went to learning something of value (and potentially fun). Take an ems course, weekend courses are available. Take a brewing course, hell that will be fun. If you hate your career now, maybe find one that has growing room that will always be of value.

Inevitably, the bad guys will control the flow of goods. It's just what happens. They will have the food, drugs, meds, etc etc. Some of the bad guys will look like bad guys, some will be wearing a uniform, either way they will run the show because violence is second nature to the them, and brutality wins. Make sure you're worth keeping alive with a certain quality of life. Don't be expendable. Don't pick sides. Take the highest bidder that will watch your back and not fuck with you. When they get popped (and they will, they always do), rinse and repeat.

It might sound a bit like the easy way out, but you'll be alive. Mix a violent situation with people of conviction with guns, and you'll wind up dead eventually if you start picking sides. That's their fight. If you vehemently disagree with the people that are running the show, "save up", move your stuff that you need to open up shop elsewhere on the outside of town little by little, and disappear one night with a few trusted individuals. Don't wait for the fireworks. If it feels wrong, again, you're going to end up dead probably.

Also, AK all day.

Yeah gold will only be really valuable in communities that are building tech from scratch and doing repairs. Also won't be a horrible place to live, they'll have the lights and comms back on while everyone else is still playing cowboys and Indians running around the woods fighting over cans of Alpo and tuna.

The key is both.
Water, candles, lamp oil, whole house solar, food, seeds, fertilizer, other garden chemicals, canning supplies, incl. sugar, pectin, salt, flour sifted and vacuum packed, silver for trading, fence and defensive plants, ammo and guns.
