Above is a blast to shoot. Everybody whos ever shot mine has loved it and a few guys went ahead and bought their own.
At 50 yards we had no problem hitting cans using just the irons and with 22 ammo under 4 cents a pop, mag dumps are a smile inducing activity

I can jump onboard with that. Mine is fun AND cheap to shoot, uses 33 round glock mags and is very quiet with 147gr/subsonic ammo. I even find it practical so its not just a range toy.

Having all that, I personally would go with an MP5 clone of some sort.

Good shooter can run you 700-1000,

Non-matching, 7.63x25(no soviet rds) or 9mm. You can buy a period stock legally.

It may sound stupid to some, but I tell ya, if you don't already have one, buy you a little Henry lever action .22, it's literally my favorite rifle to shoot, and it will run .22 short, long, and long rifle (like a damn .22 is SUPPOSED to do). Great US made rifles, looking at buying a Big Boy soon in .44.

Uzi or MP5.

9mm isn't too expensive and both are classic head turners.

Shame on you!

Get an older Marlin 60, 10/22 or a S&W MP-22. Like was said, Henry levers are awesome as well! A Ruger MK II pistol is a joy to shoot, with a $700 budget you could afford a rifle and pistol.

You don't own a .22 yet you come here asking about something to shoot for fun?! Really? You are missing out, my friend! A Ruger 10/22, Marlin 60, AR in .22, MP5 in .22, or just about ANY .22 semi auto can be a ton of fun for simple range blasting. If you absolutely cannot find fun without big noise... Any 12 gauge shotgun gets my vote. I still love to shred paper, and destroy steel with my shotgun.

I have an AR pistol (with brace) built from a Colt 9mm subgun, a UZI carbine I built and a reverse stretch POF MP5K with a sidefolding brace

All are a delight to shoot....

The MP5K is the bomb.

Those three are the three that I would own. And will if I can. Any other 9mm SMG or PCC is just a wannabe, better ergo's or not.

my first deer rifle was a marlin 30-30, nostalgia sake and I'm lacking a fun lever gun so it's on the short list. maybe a pistol cal carbine or just a 22lr, a fun collectible.

A friend of mine picked up a Henry Lever Action in .44-40 and it was cool as hell to shoot as well as to look at.

I believe they make them in .357 magnum and .45 Colt too.

+1

Yeah I also have the typical Marlin 60 and 10/22, but the Henry 22 is my favorite rifle and bring it just about everywhere when I go for shooting trip.

I have a Big Boy classic 357 but I think I need to send it back it due to some issues extracting cases.

That picture doesn't do that 1873 justice not that this is the best review but it's got some good shots of what IMO is one the most beautiful firearms out there. A couple more that are calling my name are the Marlin 1895 SBL 45-70 and have you seen the new 1894's the SBL, CSBL, and CST like the 1873 Uberti they're making it hard not to spend.

I acquired a 8mm Persian Mauser carbine and it's a blast to shoot (literally). It's an 8x57 Mauser with a 18" barrel, so it throws off a huge blast. In my opinion, the Persian Mausers are very beautiful rifles. The 8x57 recoil isn't terrible, but it's definitely more than the 7.62/5.45x39 or .308

Milsurps are TONS of fun to shoot. If you've been shooting AR's and AK's you lose an appreciation for a full power battle rifle cartridge. Especially when shooting steel - the full power rounds make those steel targets "ring and swing".
My vote too

thanks for video links. I've yet to look closely at the 1894's but I agree the Uberti's are really really nice. The one shown in the video is the exact version I was eyeballing.. lol

Winchester 9422 for the win.

Find an early one (70’s) that’s a shooter grade on gunbroker. It’ll push $700, you won’t find a better lever gun, and you can channel your inner Rowdy Yates.

Made my decision. Going with a Ruger 10/22 takedown. Wanting the threaded model with the camo stock, blued 16" barrel. Trying to find a good deal on one. Kill 2 birds with 1 stone. Get a fun gun and my first 22LR. Should come in handy being able to get tons of cheap target practice in.

Excellent choice Cowboys. I have several .22LR rifles including 10/22s and a Henry AR-7 or I would already have one myself.

Military Arms channel did a really cool video on a 10/22 CHARGER takedown 10"(?) barrel, where they attached an adapter to it that allowed them to put on a SB Tactical Brace.

A super compact gun that is suppressor friendly. Would be an awesome backwoods gun for discreet hunting and target shooting. Broken down would easily fit into even the smallest packs. I can also recommend the Keltec Sub2k in 9mm. Much more accurate than I would have expected and fun, fun, fun. The Gen 2 solves a lot of gripes. (i.e., optics rail and now threaded)

Well, you've made your decision Cowboys, but here is what is keeping me up at night hoping for Santa.

CZ Scorpion Micro w Collapsible Brace
CZ Bren 805 Rifle
CZ Shadow 2
Tavor or the X95 (except accuracy)
Beretta ARX ($869 and not worth more)
Scar 17s
Glock 34 Gen 5 MOS
Shockwave shotgun w folding brace
Galil Ace (keep going back and forth)
Henry Lever Action .22LR
Kriss Vector .45 ACP
Hi Point .45 ACP Carbine (what? I have A LOT of .45 ACP lol; plus, the chiddrens ...)
Keltec KSG (if it were 100%)
Tavor .308
HK USP .45 ACP
Sig MCX (if it were 100%)
Sig 556 (if it were 100%)
HK MP5 or a clone
Beretta 92fs
VEPR 12GA factory SBR
Canik striker fired handgun
[DP-12 -- thanks ACEs!]

If you have the means and do not have a good or designated 7.62 NATO rifle, I would go for the SCAR 17S. Awesome gun that you will not lose money with. Battle tested, accurate, reliable, and modular.
