Default ORF Galil Receiver and Some Questions

Ok, I am about to step into the "kill zone" with these questions based on my reading of the other ORF threads.

I have someone locally selling an ORF Galil with all IMI internals (supposedly). The gentleman claims to have just put a new barrel on it to "get the headspacing right". He also said his "marine buddy built it for him" which makes me even more skeptical than just the ORF receiver.

He wants to trade my Howa 1500 with some accessories and cash on my end for the Galil with 6 mags.

My questions are:

How can I tell if it's an abortion from hell or not terrible?

Is it even worth my time, and effort to trade?

Are there ways to inspect components and understand whether they are going to be problematic (ground, filed, etc)?

Edit: Asked the seller/potential trader to send me some photos of the lockup with the bolt. Going to try and see if any mushrooming is present and if bolt gets even lockup.

A new barrel isn't gonna fix a bad receiver.

I'd pass, personally ( sounds like a bubba job fo' sho )

I think I am going to do that Nalioth. I am not even remotely well versed on Galils but after lots and lots of reading, it seems others who have spent more time, frustration, and good will have tried to save others and fix the ones who have been "caught in the fly trap". Think I will air on the side of caution. Pity as I really love the aesthetics of the Galil.

ORF receivers were / are hit and miss.

Bare minimum is checking the headspace and lug contact.
If those are correct then you are hoping the receiver hardness is correct so it stays there. Having several hundred rounds on it will give you a better idea.

(Just ordered a Tortort 80% for a build)
