Yea, I completely understand now.

Rivet'd the bullet guide in yesterday. Ran into a few problem. Mainly the rivet I ordered from ak-builder wasn't right, the diameter was too big. No worries though. Took a shouldered rivet I had left over since I ordered a while rivet set just to do the trigger guard. Ran it on the belt sander while spining it with my drill to match the profile of the ak-builder rivet. Worked out perfect. I will post pictures tonight

Yes! Please do!! I riveted my trigger gaurd and mag catch on yesterday and just started to look at the bullet guide before I ran out of time and I noticed the same thing with the rivet being too large..I was just gunna open the hole up a bit..now I would like to see what you did first!

Looks good.....I just leave the top of rivet round and it flattens fine....a little extra meat is good in my book....penny nails work too....cut down of course.

Looks awesome!

I can't wait to start my galil reweld. I just need to find a good front stub. Mine is cut right through the threads on the barrel.

just gotta keep playing the APEX lottery or gun broker.

UPDATE

Populated my barrel last and forgot my handguard retainer lol. So today while we demilled my buddies romy G kit we removed the gas block, put retainer on and pressed everything back on. Drilled barrel for roll pins and assembled everything. Fired 100 rounds out of it to test everything. Headspace is still dead nuts but the trigger slap is terrible. I've been trimming the disconnector to try and reduce this. Ive got it almost all gone but it will pop up ever 5 rounds or so. OK enough with all that, here's the pictures.

Finally got a bipod. Sarco had a great price. Also, sharpie will remove fresh paint lol. I need to just cerakote it and call it good. keep popping E clips off the axis pins, anyone have a better solution?

looks real nice, congratulations.....

Since your going old school (My Favorite) use a Galil retainer

These can be a PITA to install.....but still cool

https://www.apexgunparts.com/galil-a...w-us-made.html

These are basically the best for easy remove and install...

http://damageindustriesllc.com/store...&product_id=70

Or if your super cheap and want reliable with a little discomfort...go to ACE hardware or similar, take your AXIS pin with you and get a few small hitch pins to fit....Couple bucks and done...

I make the first 2 out of Piano wire on jigs I made years ago, good stuff and cost me about a penny to make one

That makes me the ultimate cheapo..

The second spring is what the new Ace runs.....

Again good job on build!

Awesome. Thanks for the info. I have the original wire I cut down and was starting to bend but just said screw it and put the E clip on to be quick and lazy. I also have an ak-builder retainer plate I was thinking about using but don't know how much modification it will take to use. I guess I'll try the original modified and if that doesn't work I'll probably get the damage industry plate. thank you very much. I'm really happy with this build.

Did your kit not come with night sights?? And did the bipod pin come with the bipod?? I've been looking for a pin...(I just used a 10/32 bolt and a jam nut.)

Man I like the battleworn finish you got going on!! Looks rad!

Nah, guess they were so nice apex decided to keep them ha. I wasn't expecting them to be included since they say parts may be missing. They made it right though, someone threw in an extra axis pin, seems fair. And I ordered a "new style" bipod from sarco. It's also what some call a quick release meaning that the pin is self contained. I was going to order a cheap bipod off eBay but couldn't find the correct pin needed on McMaster carr. All said and done it would have cost me 40-45$ and I got the new style for 35$ shipped from sarco.

Thanks, I haven't painted anything on this besides the receiver. I'm really into this worn finish. It has a lot of character. Doesn't help that all my rifles end up being truck guns at some point so why bother trying to make it all pretty.

Damnit man!! I was pretty excited when mine came with the night sights!! On my Franken galil it did not have any so I bought the 6.95 set off sarco that says no glow or mounting hardware..got the springs and plunger from apex and used some drill bits as the roll pins when I couldn't find any that size...stole some of the old lady's white nail polish and filled in the holes..not really a "night sight" but they still look cool!

Couldn't help it, going to make this a model 392 clone and send the barrel to adco to be cut down to 16.1" and threaded 1/2x28. I'm going to try and document this build better than the last.

Kit arrived from Apex yesterday. the finish on everything is tons better than my other kit. The first kit was parkerized and oiled, this kit is black paint of some sort. Reminds me of the appliance epoxy. The stub i ordered was destroyed, not even worth posting.

The stock is nice and tight, good finish. The pistol grip is weird, only one i've see without the post to to prevent the selector from moving too far forward. Not sure if thats good or bad?

Top cover has the night sights and number matches the Bolt.

recoil spring marked AH

Hell yeah!!! Looks dam good!

I have some grips without the overtravel pin too..theyve never given me any problems.

I've got some parts with that finish on them as well..no idea what it is..but if sure like to get some more!

Really cool the numbers match!!

I got several different generations in my last kit

Got Makman90's carry handle retainer the other day and couldn't be happier. Way less than what anyone else wants for their retainer and I dont have to modify my handguard which is a huge plus. The quality is on par if not better than the other original retainer being that this is milled and not cast and the machine work is top notch. The carry handle is from and FAL and I picked 2 of these up for 7$ shipped on ebay. Now I just need to degrease and BBQ paint the retainer to match the kit.
