Kind of like building a tacticool Garand.

I understand the need to upgrade if this was your only choice in the firearms you could pick, but, the standard Dragunov, being a great early design, and jump into using a DMR in your tactics, still works in my eyes, as is.

For really long work, I think the ability to go to a 338 or 50 caliber, just makes the need for 30 caliber 1200 yard gun, a bit obsolete, unless again, its the only choice you have.

Hey, I'm an entepreneur too, and I appreciate the work and effort that goes into this, its neat, but, Its just not for me.

ok, well move along then, nothing to see here.

The club I shoot at regularly runs service rifle shoots at 300, 500 & 600 yards. Those running AR10s do indeed score pretty well, but I choose to shoot my Dragunov and I struggle to get it in the X ring at those distances. Tried shooting it off a bag and the results were BAD, had to go back to my airsoft bipod, not ideal.
Fortunately for me, my Tigr only cost the equivalent of US$1000 so I can add one of Vals chasis and still have no more in it than an AR.
For me, having a Dragunov that shoots is worth a lot more than having a good looking classic that doesnt.

Anyone owning one of these classic rifles who doesnt want to devalue it by modifying it, thats understandable, but theres enough negativity in the world without bringing it to this thread.

Due to the limited supply in the US they are more of a collector's item than in NZ.

Agreed on the actual SVD front, but a Tiger is a bastard to begin with.

Rather see them turned into SVDS or one of these things

Guys. I see your point but if the gun is a safe queen - than it won't appear in this topic.

To begin with i'd compare 3 platforms at the place where we do the conversions: AR10, SCAR17S, SVD with chassis.

Price of rifle
AR10: $3000
SCAR17S: $7000
Tiger with chassis: $1600

Factory match round price
.308WIN with 175SMK: $5
7.62x54R 7N1: 0.55$
7.62x54R extra 70: 1.1$

Non match rounds with tompac bullet
.308WIN = 0.6$
7.62x54R (174gr bimetal since Tiger barrel is chomed): 0.25$

So basically
Base AR10 (w/o upgrades such as match trigger, slim foreend etc.) equals Tiger with chassis + 3500 rounds of 1MOA 7.62x54R ammo.

Well...i'd say for the place we do the conversions it's pure common sence.

For others - it's personal choice what to do with the rifle.
What we do - we give the option which improve ergonomics and accuracy. And look cool

That's all.

Please don't assume my post was being negative, I am just expressing my opinion.

And, if you ever are the business of marketing something, you may want to consider the opinions of your product, pro and con, to do such things improving it, to sell to more customers.

Its called constructive criticism. And in the long run, its better to learn to accept it.

Not to mention the fact, you are on a US based site, where, our cost for an AR10 is sub 1K, and Dragunovs, at least 6K or more, and are basically impossible to find, vastly limiting the appeal of your stuff to us here.

As I said, good luck with your work in any case.

Umm, I didn't pay much more than a grand for mine. But, I am a life NRA member, who supports our rights, and hopes, that in time, we can get them here again, for a grand in the future.

Well.

The funniest thing is that...
We can make SVD in US (well we need a partner with experience in machining and FFL etc. etc. But it's just a matter of time) but.

a. Building them locally will drop the price down
b. When the price drop down the SVD will move from "shutupandtakemymoney" to "just another rifle on the block" category.
c. As the result locally made SVD will vanish since its neither original (true com block) neither shoots from the box as AR10.

We do have possibility to make all 3d models for CNC and all prints needed for production - but i really don't see any juice here.

Yeah, the US made SVD isn't happening anytime soon, if ever.

I think there would be a market for a US-made SVD but yes M1As/AR10s would be stiff competition.

So much win in that photo.

Your rifle plus two SVDS in the background.

I just want an SVD so bad. I don't need any of that tacticool nonsense. Just laminated wood and blued or parked steel. Why can't we have nice things?

Have any plans to design a replacement top cover that interfaces with your chassis and your AR pistol grip adapter? Seems like the only missing piece at this point.

Has anyone here chrono'd some common 7.62x54r out of 16-18" barrels? I'm curious how much juice it loses. I'm fond of the shorter barrels but some rounds lose more than others and aren't as effective vs other options in the < 20" barrels.

When I chrono'd my PSL it was around 2650-2700fps so knock a couple hundred off that for a 16".

This was ball ammo btw, the match stuff can be considerably slower...

7N1 (151gr)
460mm barrel - 780 ms
660mm barrel - 860 ms

Extra (200gr)
460mm barrel - 703 ms
660mm barrel - 770 ms

So going down from 28.7" to 18.7" you loose ~10% of velocity or, roughly 1% per 1 inch.

You can except they cost 3000, 4000 etc bucks...

Since I don't want to spend that I'll just have to settle for going out in the garage, picking up my M1A and pretending it's an SVD.

That's about what I expected.

Can you guys handload over there (make your own ammo)? Or are the rules around powder and primers too strict?

Haha, some folks are going to have a conniption.

What is your price point on the 17rd mags? Thinking about running heavy metal division next year for three gun, but need something more than 10rd mags.
