Default Yugo PAP Variations

So I used to have a thread or post about this but it seems to have disappeared. I'm sure someone crapped in the thread and we lost it to the abyss. Figured I would start a new one. Feel free to drop a note if I missed one and I will be sure to include it.

Not all PAPs are created equal, there have been quite a few variations imported over the years.

The first generation PAP shipped with a single stack bulged trunnion, 1.5mm receiver and single stack bolt. Identified with a picatinny rail on the dust cover. Century regularly "converted" these for double stack duty in a less than precise manner. Typically referred to as a ZA PAP, as the serial numbers were ZAPAPXXXXXX.

EAA PAP - First importer - Slant Back with synthetic or wood furniture w/thumbhole stock, this is all they brought in. The wood versions are incredibly scarce and have the M21 accessory rail instead of the picatinny dust cover.

CAI RI1987-N - Second importer, square back, usually butchered for double stack mags. The unmodified single stack versions are difficult to come by.

Second generation N-PAP. Typically has correct double stack trunnion and bolt, but slabside 1mm receiver, has the M21 accessory rail on the receiver. Synthetic or wood furniture, thumbhole, standard or collapsable.

RI2084-N

RI2085-N

RI2086-N

RI2087-N

RI2088-N, Single Stack

RI2089-N, Single Stack

Then the O-PAP, we'll call it the third generation. Correct double stack trunnion and bolt, bulged trunnion, 1.5mm receiver, has the M21 accessory rail on the receiver. Surplus furniture, some with an engraved Yugoslavian crest. At the end of the run they ran out of surplus furniture, some examples can be found with new N-PAP wood.

RI2090-N

This section is for all of the miscellaneous versions and calibers that came after that O-PAP.

RI2174-N, N-PAPDF, underfolder.

RI2222-N, PAP M90NP in 5.56 NATO with magwell adapter to accept standard stanag magazines. Bulged trunnion, 1.5 mm receiver and M21 accessory rail.

RI2063-N, PAP M77PS in 7.62 NATO. Slant back, bulged trunnion, 1.5 mm receiver and M21 accessory rail.

HG3237-N, PAP M85, pistol/krink version of the M90NP.

HG3237-N, PAP M85, pistol/krink version of the M90NP, except that it accepts standard Yugo 5.56 Magazines.

HG3089-N, PAP M92, pistol/krink version of the N-PAP.

Nice thread, I've had the idea to create one of my own on this exact topic but the truth is I simply do not have a passion for Zastava firearms. The above model is one I have owned previously, though it had been modified to accept double stack mags in a professional manner. It was not butchered by any means.

Mine was labeled PAP M70.

Though I felt the rifle was built solidly, it is to date the most nightmarish AK I've ever dealt with. There were problems on top of problems, making it difficult to narrow down the exact issues and it took a lot of trial and error to finally get the rifle up and running reliably.

I had initially emailed Century and they were of no use. They told me the firearm was out of warranty and they werent going to deal with it. I was advised to send it to a gunsmith. Not being happy with that answer I ultimately elected to become my own gunsmith. It took a lot of patience.

When the OPAP first appeared, from the beginning CAI claimed it would be a limited production gun. Not tiny numbers or anything like that, but a few thousand only.
While it is often difficult to take them at their word, in this case it seemed to be truth.

When buying from Century, even with new firearms, it is a good idea just to kind of assume you are buying something that is surplus and thus doesn't have a warranty. You save yourself a lot of stress and disappointment that way heh.

We did a PAP Gen 1, Gen 2, Gen 3 video 2 and a half years ago. I would like to redo it, but I don't myself own a Gen 1 and the one in that vid was a loaner from a good friend.
Funny thing is, he has had that rifle since 2012, and he says it has never jammed on him with about 2k rds fired. Not a high number I know, but i think it is enough to show his rifle at least doesn't have any major issues. It is a very low serial, from the first batch imported.
The day Century released those was pretty damn exciting too I can tell you.

It's definitely not a PAP series rifle or it'd be a PAPM70ab2

There was also a different version of the M85 PAP Pistol.

The M85 Part #HG3237-N is the M85np (pictured above)

HG3088-N PAP M85pv

This model accepts Yugo 223/556 magazines / Century also sold Galil Magazines to fit the pv Model

Nice dissection of PAP models, OP.

Century also made m70’s like M70ab2 , and M70ab2T. Ab2t had a 1mm receiver.

M70ab2 has a good rep and was contract built by wiselite Arms. I think that Century made a fixed stock M70 too

I had the part number from a left over box in the back of my closet.
